4 children die in Kawempe school fire.

The territorial police of Kawempe are actively investigating a fire outbreak at New Crest Junior at Kibedi Day and boarding Primary School in Kawempe Division, Kampala City, where four children have been confirmed dead.

Luke Owoyesigire; the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says that the fire started at around 3am today from one of the female pupils’ dormitories. Four female pupils have been confirmed dead while three are seriously injured.

It is alleged that the school locally managed the fire outbreak and did not bring it to the attention of the nearest police at Kawempe. Police condemned this as an act of gross negligence that caused the death and injuries of the pupils.

Owoyesigire said the forensic team of experts from the Directorate of Fire and from the Forensics are documenting the scene.

All the victims are females aged below 10.

The injured were evacuated to Kyadondo Hospital in Kawempe Division, and are being accorded the required treatment.

The boy rushed to inform the mother, Catherine Nakafu, 35, a businesswoman who works in the neighborhood, who informed the police.

The police responded; broke the door to access the house, where they managed to pick the relevant pieces of evidence. The investigative team has since established through the parents, that the deceased was pending to be returned to school in the village in Lugumba, Buikwe District, a decision she objected.

Investigations are still ongoing although preliminary findings suggest that the deceased committed suicide.

Sudan’s prime minister resigns; calls for fresh talks with military

Days after he was reinstated as prime minister of Sudan, Abdalla Hamdok quit after day of violent protests demanding democratic progress.

In a televised speech on Sunday, Hamdok said that his efforts to bridge the widening gap and settle disputes among the political forces have failed. He called for a fresh round of talks about a stalled transition to democracy is needed with the military.

“I decided to give back the responsibility and announce my resignation as prime minister, and give a chance to another man or woman of this noble country to complete the leadership of the dear homeland and pass through it during the remaining life of the transition towards reviving a civil and democratic state,” said Hamdok.

The resignation of the prime minister, a technocrat and former UN banker, comes after a deteriorating economy and mass street protests against a military coup last October.

Security forces have continuously violently dispersed crowds calling for an end to military rule and at least 56 people have been killed since the October coup.

It should be noted that the 2019 street demonstrations, led by women and professionals, prompted the military to oust Omar al-Bashir; a longtime autocrat who had been in power for 30 years.

A new set of military leaders led by Abdel Fattah Burhan, who is now de facto head of state, set up a hybrid military-civilian council charged with moving the country towards democracy. Sudan has since plunged into economic crisis, exacerbated by Covid-19 and the need for deep structural reforms after decades of misrule and profligate spending on the military.

As the transitional council lost popularity, the generals moved against Hamdok last October, placing him under house arrest. They reinstated him in November following international pressure, particularly from the US, which has linked aid and debt forgiveness with progress towards democracy.

The military says it is committed to holding democratic elections in 2023, but progress towards that goal has been slow and Hamdok’s position in the government is without doubt untenable.

Did Bebe Cool forget himself?

The Gagamel boss has for a few years been doing the Bebe Cool list where he highlights his best Ugandan artists and songs every end of year. This move has had him criticized and ridiculed as having no right to judge music with a number of people however asking him to make official awards and call them Bebe Cool Awards.

When many questioned Bebe Cool’s list after listing himself on it last year, this year’s list evidently had the singer between a rock and a hard place deciding whether he had to include himself or not; he chose the latter.

Bebe Cool has had hit songs like Gyenvudde and Make a wish this year.

Whether it was human error or intentional, we cannot tell for sure.

In his list of artistes he believes have been better than the rest he included Azawi, Vinka, Sheeba, Mudra, Pallaso and Eddy Kenzo among others and like on previous occasions, he gives reasons and advice why those artistes appear on his list.

New to his list are the one hit wonders where he also doesn’t appear.

Here is Bebe Cool’s full list for 2021 and justification for his choices

PALLASO

1.Nalonda Nemala

It’s been a good second consecutive year for Pallaso with Nalonda Nemala as the major hit from him this year but also followed it up with Mpa Love, Ani oyo which were fairly good songs, Good job Done. Basically he had 1 and a half big songs.

KENZO

Eddie Kenzo flying high with Weekend and Sango ft Martha Mukisa, despite his personal challenges Kenzo Maneuvered with Weekend which I would have called the song of the year, if two people had not released what they released this year but also followed it up with Sango being the first artist to have two equally big songs in 2021.

AZAWI

Swangz Avenue 2021 shining star, the only female artist to release an album in 2021 with two hit songs my year and slow dancing. With Slow Dancing as her biggest hit song and My year moderate, though all her songs on the album seem to be good and require public attention.

Azawi was clearly ahead of all other female artists because of her affiliation with Record Rebel that pushed her music and brand.

MUDRA

Mudra bounces back on Bebe Cool list with two hit songs ONKOSA and GWE AMANYI. I wouldn’t organize a concert and miss having this Lad perform because he represents the new energy and vocabulary of the young generation.

Two big songs are two big songs for Mudra, Congs Mudra.

ZEX BILANGILANGI

My firebase criminal bounces back on the Bebe Cool list with a bullet song MAGAZINE and for sure that’s all he needed to be on the list this year, this song is extremely big and good and the character is proving more likeable. When President opens the economy fully, I can’t wait to have him on my concerts.

LIAM VOICE

He is a new entrant breakthrough artist this year with Omwoyo, Bus, Love Olinonya which are relatively good songs. His style of music is not easily salable unless if an artist executes it perfectly well most especially in the times of Zexs and mudras were young people are more into dancing and then listening.

SPICE DIANA

The hustle continues, surely hardwork had been seen from Spice Diana this year with Ready ft Fik femaica and Body ft Nince Henry though body is an average song. Focusing alot on showbiz and wanting to collaborate might have redirected the recognition of this young lady. I believe if she had focused more on her individual songs she would have been in a better position this year.

The difference in management between Spice Diana and Azawi clearly shows how much investment and experience one has in the game. If you asked me, which artist had firm ground, I would say Spice Diana but if you asked which artist is doing better Azawi. The question is, which of these positions would choose as an artist to be firm on ground or to be doing good at a certain time.

VINKA

Thank God

She definitely has to thank God that she appeared on Bebe Cool’s list this year with THANK GOD, otherwise surely coming from the same record company with Azawi, the business favored Azawi for this year. Sometimes it’s not an artist doing that they not doing good but remember that also record companies have disadvantages otherwise I’m sure she is bouncing next year with an album.

SHEEBAH

More or less nothing surprising about Sheebah doing good and yes she did good with Boyfire Ft Selector Jeff as a hit song and Yolo half hit. Its good this year we have seen more women compete with Sheebah unlike the previous years were she dominated, good job Queen Karma.

ONE HIT WONDERS 2021

The culture of Bebe Cool list is not to talk about artists with one hit song but this time let appreciate them in a list.

  1. Twende Tupaate – Pia Pounds

2. Onina-Baza Baza

3. Sente Nina-Kid Dee

4. Katonda yabadde Mwe Ensonga – Pastor Bugembe.

5. Oluvannyuma-Zulitums

6. Omwana Wabandi-Daddy Andre.

7. Akapeesa-Lady Jazmine

8. Mbimala-John Blaq

9. Mbeera-Levixone ft Grace Morgan

15 year old shot dead during enforcement of curfew.

15 year old Shakira Fazila Nantabala, was last night shot and killed by police as they tried to disperse crowds that gathered at Mbuzi pub, Mbalala, Mukono district to usher in the new year.

Gerald Mukasa, a resident and eye witness said Nantabala who has been operating a chips business to raise school fees was in her area of business at the time when she was unfortunately shot in the stomach and died after a few moments later.

This incident forced the residents of the area to storm the Mbalala police station protesting the behavior of presiding Officer in Charge (OC); Coleb Asiimwe who they accused of misconduct and also allege he committed this atrocity.

The residents called for instant replacement of Asiimwe on grounds of mistreatment and carrying out unnecessary arrests.
