Ugandan Gospel Singer Rhoda K reveals she is lesbian

US-based Ugandan singer Rhoda K Shelbie has for a long time sparked rumours that she intimately involved with fellow women.

Questions and allegations regarding her sexuality emerged last year after she posted photos and a video in which she was kissing a yet to be identified white girl on the lips on social media. On Valentine’s Day, she posted pictures with the same lady sparking fresh rumours that there was something between them.

Whereas she has been confidently posting the pictures and videos having fun with her fellow women, she had never come out to confess being intimate with them.

Rhoda K’s photo with a friend on Instagram

During an exclusive Interview with a local You Tuber days ago, she was asked if she has plans of getting married to a man to which the singer responded saying she is a lesbian and has never had feelings for men. “I have never dated a man by the way so I don’t know what happens. Right now it has not crossed my mind yet but we leave that to God. This is a personal question but I would say I love girls in different ways. Whether intimate love or just normal friendship, I don’t know how to describe it but I have no problem to do with girls and I don’t care what they say,” she said.

She further added that she has no problem with Ugandans who judge her for loving her fellow women.

“My life, my way. Who am I to crucify a girl who likes a girl? It is God who created us you know. If Rhoda K loves a girl, it is her decision. You not gonna come into my life and say “why did you do this?” She noted with emphasis.

Rhoda K becomes the second diaspora-based Ugandan female artiste to open up about her sexuality following Julie Mutesasira’s wedding with a fellow woman in 2020.

Congolese man marries triplets on the same day

The world especially Africa was this week taken by storm when pictures of Luwizo, a citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) marrying three women on the same day went viral on social media.

32-year old Luwizo from Kalehe, South Kivu in DRC says he met the sisters after he fell in love with Natalie (one of the triplets) who he met via Facebook.

When he finally organized the meeting to formalize their union at Natalie’s place, Luwizo who was to be welcomed by one of the triplets said he was shocked to meet three identical women. “I almost fainted. I asked them amongst all of you, who is Natalie? They even told me I had met all of them on different days I visited,” he said.

Without his knowledge, Natalie, who was dating Luwizo introduced him to her other sisters Nadege as well as Natasha who all also fell head over heels in love with him. The beautiful love story culminated when all three of the sister proposed to him at the same time, to which he gladly accepted.

“I became confused as I had planned to marry Natalie but what confused me was that I couldn’t marry one of the girls and leave the two behind!”

Triplets said: ‘When we told Luwizo that he had to marry the three of us, he was shocked. Because Luwizo had already fallen in love with all of us, he could not refuse the marriage. All three of us also loved Luwizo.’

He exchanged vows with Nadege, Natasha, and Nathalie, in a private ceremony in DRC where people have the legal right to get married to more than one person. The dazzling ceremony was graced by close friends and family, except Luwizo’s parents as they were not comfortable with the fact that their son was getting married to three women at the same time.

“You have to lose something in order to gain another,” he Luwizo commented about his parent’s refusal to be part of his big day.  “In addition, one has their preferences and their own way of doing things.”

‘My parents do not understand what I am doing. They expressed displeasure over this polygamy. Later they did not even attend the wedding,’ said Luwizo.

Luwizo says that he is happy to marry all three, no matter what others think. All I can say is that love knows no bounds. Luwizo said, “It feels like I am having a dream.” His three wives are also very happy with this marriage.

The sisters, on their part, said they thought their future husbands would make them drift apart, terming the turn of events as ‘a dream come true’.

The sisters said they were at peace with marrying him because they have been close-knit since childhood. “Even though people consider it impossible for three women to share one husband, to us, sharing everything has been our life since childhood.”

Our dream came true. We thought we would be separated by marriage, but God heard our prayers,” Natalie commented.

Tortured Kamwenge mayor awarded shs1.4bn in compensation.

Godfrey Byamukama, the mayor Kamwenge town who was in 2017 tortured by Police on accusations of participating in the gruesome murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi has been awarded shs1.4 billion in compensation for the torture.

In 2017, operatives of the Police Flying Squad arrested Byamukama, from Kampala where he travelled as usual for private business. He was bundled into a waiting drone van and detained at Nalufenya police station which at a time was a reknown torture chamber to a number of suspects that had been detained at the facility.

AIGP Erasmus Twaruhukwa, the director in charge of human rights and legal services at the Uganda Police Force, has revealed that the law and order agency agreed to pay Byamukama Shs1.4bn in an out-of-court settlement.

Speaking during a workshop for Regional Police Commanders at Police headquarters on Thursday, Twaruhukwa said government was sued for violating Byamukama’s rights in a civil suit, adding that having realized there was so much evidence against them, the matter was settled out of court.

“We decided to settle the matter out of court. We settled to pay UGX1.4 billion. In that case, everything (evidence) was on social media and if we had allowed the case to go on (in court), we knew we were not likely to win. We would be made to pay UGX 8 billion that they (Byamukama) had asked for,” AIGP Twaruhukwa said.

Sensitive images that surfaced on social media showed torture marks all over Byamukama’s body which attracted ridicule and condemnation from the members of the public, civil society organizations among others.

The Police director however warned that there are many cases that can be mitigated against by police, adding that this can be done when officers stick to what the Police Act and the Constitution provide.

“We need to have a situation where there is no torture and no detention beyond 48 hours. A police officer who makes government loses money, should have action taken against them. These cases happen because people commit crimes with impunity and know the Attorney general will deal with them. The involved officer should pay a percentage of the award and maybe we shall learn to do the right thing,” said Twaruhukwa.

Four police officers including D/ASP Patrick Muramira, D/ASP Fred Tumuhairwe, Habib Roma and Ben Odeke were arraigned before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates court and charged with torture. However, they were later released on bail.

17 African countries abstain from UN vote to condemn Russia invasion

Seventeen African countries on Wednesday abstained from voting as the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly voted to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, signaling further international pressure on Moscow.

Following Russia’s February 24th invasion of its neighbor, the UN General Assembly held an emergency session this week, and voted to a motion termed as “aggression against Ukraine” in a rare sitting occasioned only by a serious threat to international security.

The vote became only the first in 40 years when the General Assembly sat and passed a resolution to reprimand a member’s aggression.

141 of the 193 member states of the UN including; Kenya, Ghana, Gabon, Rwanda, Djibouti, Congo, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo voted YES.

Some 35 countries abstained from the vote, including Russia and China, and African states – Burundi, Senegal, South Sudan, South Africa, Uganda, Mali and Mozambique.

Adonia Ayebare, Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the UN, claimed neutrality was behind the country’s refusal to vote.

Ethiopia did not take part in the voting, but Eritrea, North Korea and Syria voted against the resolution.

The vote, which is mostly politically symbolic but lacks legal strength, means the UN has declared Moscow’s decision a violation of the UN Charter, especially on issues of territorial integrity.
