Ibanda: Medical doctor killed, body dumped in a stream
Police in Ibanda are investigating circumstances under which a medical doctor was murdered on Monday night and his naked body dumped into a stream.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region Police spokesperson confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Dr Nturagye Rashid, of Mahyoro, Kitagwenda district and a student at Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
Kasasira added that the murder happened near the farm of Emmanuel Kafuniza, the presidential advisor on western region affairs, in Kayenje I cell in Kayenje ward of Bufunda Division in Ibanda Municipality, about 7km from Ibanda town on the Ibanda-Mbarara road.
It is said that the deceased who died as a result of assault by unknown people was last seen at around 6pm on Monday walking along the Ibanda-Mbarara road toward Mbarara direction.
His body was discovered in a stream by a resident of Kayenje at around 7am on Tuesday.
Prisca Kobusingye, a resident of Kayenje and one of the first respondents, said that on Tuesday morning, as she was going to visit a neighbor, she saw personal items, including shoes, a passport and an ID by the roadside.
Lawrence Tibeshumbusa, Kayenje I LCI chairperson, said there seemed to have been a scuffle before Nturagye was subdued and killed.
Kasasira, said the Police conveyed the body to Ruhoko Health Centre IV for postmortem examination adding that no arrests have been made by press time and inquiries into the matter continue.
The case has been recorded at Ibanda Central Police Station on file number IBDA CRB063/2023.
