North Ankole Diocese begins construction of mission Hospital.

In a bid to improve health care for residents in Kiruhura and Kazo districts and the surrounding areas, the North Ankole Diocese is establishing a mission hospital.

The construction of this hospital dubbed North Ankole Mission hospital which has already started in Rushere town council, Kiruhura district is expected to be completed in about two years, to provide good health services to people especially minimizing cases of maternal mortality.

Speaking during the North Ankole Diocese 19^th anniversary function held on Sunday at Emmanuel cathedral Rushere town council, Kiruhura, the Rt. Rev. Steven Namanya, the North Ankole Diocesan Bishop, said they have reached a phase of outpatient which has the capacity to accommodate 55 beds.

Bishop Namanya revealed that although they managed to start the constructions of the hospital, they need the support of well-wishers and corporate companies to extend the services to vulnerable communities in the region.

Bishop Namanya revealed Uganda Baati Ltd has already supported them with 700 iron sheets worth UGX 51 million that contributed more to their effort.

George Arodi, the CEO Uganda Baati promised to continue giving a hand to Bishop Namanya until the hospital is completed thoroughly.

Speaking at the same function, Jotham Taremwa, former spokesperson of Uganda electoral commission praised the bishop for his contribution towards the economic and spiritual nourishment of the diocese.

Once completed, the Hospital will offer services including but not limited to maternity and pediatric services, TB and HIV care and treatment, neonatal intensive care unit, outpatient unit and dental services among others.

Woman, one year old baby killed in Sheema

Police in Sheema are investigating circumstances under which a woman and her one-year-old baby were last night killed by unknown assailants.

Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi region police spokesperson confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Sylivia Atuhaire,30, and her child.

Tumusiime told reporters that Atuhaire and her husband Moses Ampaire returned from their child’s birthday celebration in Bushenyi after which Ampaire proceeded to Mbarara while the wife went to her shop in Kyogera.

Tumusiime added that, unfortunately, Atuhaire and her child were attacked before they reached home and chopped with a panga near Kyogera seminary school in Sheema district.

Atuhaire was found lying near her dead child in critical condition and rushed to Mbarara referral hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Both bodies are at Kabwohe health centre IV pending postmortem while police efforts are underway to arrest the assailants.

Kazo: Youth asked to do God’s work

Rev Ven. Kwesiga Emmanuel Katamunanwire, the archdeacon of St Johns church of Uganda, has urged the youth to have hope in Jesus Christ if they want to be saved from sin.

Rev Ven. Kwesiga Emmanuel Katamunanwire made the call while speaking during the official opening of the 2^nd Annual youth and children convention, 2023 of Kazo Archdeaconry under the diocese of North Ankole on Thursday Evening at Kazo secondary school in Kazo district.

Speaking as the first speaker during the same occasion, the Kazo District Education Officer, Agume Robert Rwabwizi asked youth to do the work of God and obey his roles in order to live with harmony.

This year’s convention will run from 12^thto 14^th January 2023 under the whole diocese theme; “…Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29.

Kiruhura: Veterans urged to be patient with government to solve their challenges

The state Minister of defense in charge of army veteran affairs in Uganda, Mrs. Oleru Huda Abason has revealed that the amendment of UPDF 2005 Act, yet to be tabled in parliament as a bail is intending to solve issues of army veterans like compensation, pension, health treatment among others.

Meeting army veterans in Kiruhura district yesterday at Kiruhura headquarters, Minister Huda received several complaints from these veterans about the problems they are facing.

Some of the complaints are that veterans face difficulties in the process of getting their pension yet it is little, they are ignored by the government among others.

One of NRA veterans told Minister Huda that government did not trace them or relatives of those who died and that up to now they are not helped.

In response, Minister Huda encouraged them to be patient adding that their issues will be solved after the parliament passes UPDF 2005 Act into law.

She added that compensation, creating referrals, pension payments are some of the major issues targeted.

Minister Huda urged army veterans to remain hopeful not immediately relinquish yet good things are coming to them from the government.

Hon. Tayebwa Herbert, MP for Kashongi County also noted that army veterans in Kashongi are struggling with many challenges that need solutions to improve their standards of living.

Hon. Wilson Kajwengye, MP for Nyabushozi county noted that for both FRONASA veterans and NRA later UPDF veterans, spouses of those deceased should be considered by the government.

George Bakunda, the RDC for Kiruhura told the veterans that although they are suffering, government has a plan for them.

One wanted for shooting colleague to death

Police in Sheema District are hunting for a security guard who shot and killed his fellow security officer.

Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson identified the suspect as Kule Jokim, 23, a private security guard of Thunder world security services Ltd and a resident of Bwalya village, Mitandi Parish Katebwa sub-county in Bunyangabo District while the deceased was identified as John Wakulira, 56, a resident of Ndadile cell, Kyetume sub-county Kyagwe in Mukono District, also attached to the same security company.

Tumusiime said both the suspect and the deceased were both guarding at Ankole coffee producer’s cooperative union located at Rushooroza cell, Kabwohe Division in Sheema municipality.

He said the incident happened on Wednesday at around 5am and the suspect has since abandoned the gun and the company uniform and gone into hiding.

Tumusiime said the deceased succumbed to the bullet wounds.

Kazo: One arrested for operating illegal butchery

Residents of Rukinga-Bugarihe, Rwemikoma sub-county, Kazo district led by their LC I Chairperson Mweteise David have protested the arrest of a one Beigana Robert by the Kazo district Security team accusing him of operating a meat collecting center illegally in Rukinga.

The arrest follows the outcry of the area residents who have been living in fear following an outbreak of a raging strange disease suspected to be anthrax from dead animals.

The residents however say that the people who died from the strange disease were not working in any butchery and even Robert did not sell them meat asking district health team to focus on bringing the results to confirm the disease saying that they are all in fear.

Al Hajji Umar Mawiya Lule, the Kazo Resident District commissioner (RDC) said the case is registered at Kazo police post under SD Ref No 05/10/1/2023.

Mawiya advised the people of Kazo to stop eating meat from dead animals and urged them to report anyone found selling it for security to intervene.

Addressing the issue of confirming results from samples, the Kazo district health officer, Dr. Samuel Tweheyo Kiroha said the samples were taken to the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Gulu and are expecting the results before this weekend.

With this rare disease, you first develop a bruise on the arm (Akahere), the arm starts swelling which spreads to the chest, then the rest of the body and eventually resulting into death.

Dairy sector stakeholders call for stringent measures to curb milk adulteration

Dairy sector stakeholders in Ibanda district have called on the sector watchdog to institute stringent measures to stamp out illegal practices that are affecting milk quality.

George Mutara, the Ibanda town-based bulk milk buyer said some of the dealers were encouraging the illegality by buying the low quality milk, and they are not even punished.

Mutara was speaking during a dairy sector training workshop on milk quality, dairy standards and regulations conducted by the Dairy Development Authority (DDA) southwestern regional office on Tuesday.

Peninnah Natumanya, the DDA southwestern region dairy inspector, said milk quality is also negatively affected by poor handling, right from the farm up to the selling points and collection centres.

“Some farmers also scoop off the cream reducing milk quality,” added Natumanya.

The sensitization workshop held at district council hall attracted farmers, milk retailers and bulk buyers and suppliers, dairy cooperatives, and the district extension workers.

The southwestern region accounts for about 45% of the country’s total milk production, making it the biggest milk producer in Uganda, according to DDA.

The stakeholders noted that milk adulteration was widespread and Natumanya pointed out that dirty cow udder, cow dung, dust, cowboys that milk without washing hands, not washing milk containers properly, among others affect milk quality.

Ibanda: Eight people perished in road accidents – Police Report

The Ibanda district OC traffic, Juma Mustafa, has revealed that eight people perished in road accidents in Ibanda district during the fourth quarter of 2022 while 19 people suffered injuries of various degrees during the period.

Mustafa made the revelation while briefing the media about the police traffic report for the fourth quarter of 2022.

He identified some of the black spots in district as Kirimirire corner near Ibanda town, which claimed three lives. Others are Nyamirima along the Ibanda-Mbarara road, and Kigarama and Bugarama along Ibanda-Kamwenge road.

He attributed most of the accidents to reckless driving and speeding noting that many traffic offences are however, never reported to Police while others record complaints after months.

Meanwhile, Ibanda traffic Police department plans to conduct public awareness to sensitize the general public about the Uganda Highway Code as one of the ways to reduce road motor accidents.

“Some people are still adamant, but we will continue to sensitize the public about responsible road use,” said Mustafa.

Countrywide, a report released by the traffic police on Monday revealed that during the first seven days of the new year 2023, a total of 340 accidents have happened on Ugandan roads.

“In the period between January 1 and 8, 2023, there were 340 accidents, in which 79 people were killed and 245 were injured,” said Faridah Nampiima, the traffic Police Spokesperson.

Christians warned against fraudulent servants of God

The Bishop of West Ankole diocese Rt Rev Johnson Twinomujuni has warned Christians against hosting people claiming to be bishops and clergy saying there are many fraudsters posing as servants of God.

Bishop Twinomujuni made these remarks on Sunday while closing the 14th youths and students Convention organized by West Ankole Diocese held at Bweranyangi hill.

Bishop Twinomujuni said that Christians should not just allow anyone claiming to be God’s servant into their homes unless they have been commissioned by the Church.

Deo Atuhaire, the Buhweju LC V chairman asked government to investigate religion issues saying one had been arrested in Buhweju calling himself Bishop and soliciting money from the people.

Speaking as the guest speaker, Margret Rwebyangu, the woman MP Mbarara district hailed the diocese for organizing such annual events saying this convention has challenged youth to review their economic, spiritual and social lives.

The 14^th Annual youths and students’ convention which was held at Bweranyangi Hill from 5th to 9th January 2023 under the theme; “Be Wise” Ephesians 5: 15 was attended by several clergy, dignitaries from government and thousands of Youths who came for spiritual nourishment.

Youth in North Ankole have been urged to stay away from sin

The Bishop for East Ruwenzori Diocese, Rt. Rev. George Turyasingura has asked the youth to have hope in Jesus Christ if they want to be saved from sinning.

Speaking as the guest of honor at the 12th Annual Youth and Students convention at Kaaro high school in Kiruhura district, Bishop Turyasingura urged the youth to have unconditional love for one another, listen to the good advice from others as well as sharing problems for comfort.

The Bishop also implored the youth to change their bad morals to good ones.

Rev. Dr. Benson Tumuhairwe of Junamagara Ministries; Kampala noted that there is cultism, unreligious and ungodly acts that are happening in the world which youths should be careful of like homosexuality and incest among others.

Rev. Dr. Benson castigated the acts of wedding homosexuals by the church, adding that world and church need deliverance.

The Bishop of North Ankole diocese (host), Rt. Rev. Steven Namanya also emphasized that youth should do away with doing evil deeds like theft, sexual immorality, drug abuse and others asserting that sinning is the deliberate violation of God’s will.
