The Bishop of West Ankole diocese, Rt. Rev Johnson Twinomujuni has urged leaders to always ensure that they are transparent and add value while in governance.
While presiding over the fundraising to raise money to buy computers and extend electricity to Mungonya secondary school in Kararo, Kyeizooba Sub-county, Bishop Twinomujuni noted that most projects collapse due to poor supervision where leaders fail to show value for the money and accountability.
Bishop Twinomujuni urged students to concentrate on their academics if they are to be successful in future.
Ephraim Biraro, the Buhweju West Member of Parliament who represented the deputy speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa urged people to be supportive to their local private schools.
Biraro called upon the government to always support these private schools since they are supporting the government work by giving education services.
Michael Mawanda, the Igara East Member of Parliament asked parents to love their school and support it to fight against illiteracy in the community.
Edson Byaruhanga, the school head teacher said that the aim of this fundraising was to raise over UGX 109 million to equip their computer laboratory, rehabilitate the school and extend electricity to the school as it currently operates on solar.
Police in Mbarara City are hunting for a 30-year-old man who allegedly murdered his wife.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson identified the suspect only as Isaac, a boda boda rider operating at Rwebikoona.
Isaac allegedly murdered Lydia Katusiime alias Nalongo, 40, a food vendor, and resident of Nkokonjeru cell in Mbarara City North division.
Kasasira revealed that upon receiving the information, the police were able to swiftly rush to scene and found the deceased’s body lying in a pool of blood by the roadside in Nkokonjeru cell with some utensils and saucepans besides the body.
According to Kasasira, the deceased had a deep cut wound on the right hand side of the neck.
The body of the deceased was taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination as the hunt for the suspect and investigations into the matter continue.
Mbarara Resident District Commissioner, Emmy Kateera Turyabagyenyi has directed district leadership both technical and political never to implement any government project without being launched officially.
Turyabagyenyi sounded the directive while officiating at the official launch for heavy grading of Kagongi-Kyakajebere road of 4.3 kilometers in Kagongi sub-county, Kashari north, Mbarara district.
RDC Turyabagyenyi requested the local government leaders of Kagongi Sub-county to make sure the money is properly utilized as specified in scope of works.
He explained that the road to be worked on must have some impact among the population where the land that it passes will gain value, the marketing of their produce such as coffee, matooke, maize and other food stuffs should reach market and there should be no more excuse of children not going to schools and women delivering in homes.
The district engineer Mbarara, William Bananuka said the maintenance program is estimated to last four days and will cost the government of Uganda UGX 9 million under the Uganda Road Fund (URF).

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called for girls to be guided to choose science and ICT-related subjects to enhance their employability in the future.
The president’s remarks were made on Saturday at Kibubura Girls Secondary School in Ibanda district, where he was represented by Vice President Jessica Alupo, as the school marked forty years of existence.
The school also laid the foundation stone for a Science complex.
“I am happy that the old girls are flagging off the construction of a multipurpose science complex, which will ignite the passion of the people through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics,” the vice president read.
It was through their resolve to promote science education that the school started construction of the science complex.
The president also paid tribute to the people of Ibanda for the four decades of girls’ secondary education and the old girls for holding a successful re-union to reflect on the past, assess the present, and plan for the future of the school, which molded them into responsible citizens and women of substance.

With their support, President Museveni said, the school has managed to rise and shine in Western Uganda and nationally.
President Museveni further paid tribute to the school’s founder, Julia Kibubura, saying this vision is “praiseworthy.”
Julia Kibubura is said to be the first woman Gombolola (county chief) in Uganda. “History has it that Julia Kibubura, who was a traditional diviner of the king of Ankole, was among the first locals to accept Christianity. Her courage and fortitude as a woman in colonial times is an example for all to emulate.
‘’I thank the people of Ibanda for hosting this great institution and supporting it to fulfill the goal of educating girls and women,’’ Alupo remarked in the president’s speech.
The president added that the NRM government prioritizes girls’ education and that the 1.5 points of affirmative action at Makerere University have helped to grow the numbers of women in higher education.
Museveni contributed UGX 100 million towards the construction of the science block.
Earlier, the vice president promised to relay and pursue the message from the bishops to have Kibubura Girls School receive Government infrastructure support. She also contributed UGX 20 million towards the construction.
Alupo also challenged the religious leaders to use their pulpits to continuously speak out against cultural practices that hinder children’s programs. “Let the girl child and the boy child complete the school cycles so that communities and all children can access equal development.”
Rt. Rev. Amos Magezi said part of the aspirations of the school were to promote and empower the girl child through the administration of quality education with Christian morals.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Sheldon Mwesigwa, the former school head teacher and now Bishop of Ankole Diocese, who doubles as an associate professor of Religious education, hailed the school’s growth and ability to defy the odds.
The school head teacher, Amanya Celior, highlighted some of the school’s innovations, like the food and nutrition laboratory facilities, the five-acre banana plantation that supplements school feeding and enables saving, efforts in fighting soil erosion, and the teaching of the Chinese language.

Christians at Keicumu catholic centre in Keicumu parish Engari sub-county have been struggling to move the long distance to Sya to get Services of major zone.

Kazo district has officially launched the parish revolving fund (PRF) disbursement under the parish development model (PDM) program.
Lt. Col. Ronald Rubaale, the UPDF officer in charge of Operation Wealth Creation in Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development who graced the disbursement urged the beneficiaries not to undermine the UGX 1m saying that the government will continue giving each parish UGX 100m every year.

The district PDM focal person who is also the district production officer, Asiimwe Johnbaptist, revealed that 51 parishes make up Kazo district and a total of 490 households from 9 parishes were fully prepared to receive the UGX 393M PRF.
A total of 490 beneficiaries from the 9 parishes of; Akengyeya and Nyungu in Kyampagara sub-county, Akatongore, Kikoni, and Migina parishes all in Migina sub-county, Obwengara and Rwemirondo wards in Kazo town council, Mbogo in Kanoni sub-county and Magondo in Burunga sub-county were fully prepared and received up to UGX 393m PRF.
The Kazo district LC V chairperson, Rev Samuel Mugisha Katugunda said that they decided to halt the disbursement of funds for some time in order to iron out all the irregularities in the selection of beneficiaries to ensure that the targeted people are the ones to befit from PDM program.
The PDM program seeks to propel 39% of Uganda’s population still in the subsistence economy into the money economy.
Police in Bushenyi is hunting for unknown assailants who attacked and injured an 84-year-old woman and chopped off the arm of her 13-year-old grandson.
Vincent Ahimbisibwe, the area LC1 chairperson Kyampembwe cell, Swazi parish, Kyamuhunga sub-county Bushenyi district confirmed the attack and identified the victims as Safina Kamagari and her grandson Benon Nuwarinda.
Ahimbisibwe said that the family was attacked by unknown assailants on Sunday night at around 11:30am who broke unto their house through the window. He noted that the residents rushed to the scene but found the victims cut severely and lying in a pool of blood where they rushed them to the nearby clinic.
Laban Butamanya, the area parish chairperson condemned the act and warned young energetic youths who don’t want to work but want clean money that they will be arrested.
By press time, the victims had been admitted at Ishaka Adventist Hospital receiving treatment.
Residents of Mbogo parish in Kanoni Sub-county, Kazo district are overjoyed over commencement of works on their 12KM community access road, which has been in a sorry state for over 15years.
The community work chairperson, Tumwine David Tumushabe and another resident identified as Anatori Bikwatsibwamukama, have expressed gratitude to the Woman Member of Parliament; Hon Jennifer Muheesi for lobbying for them Road Units from Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).
Magyezi Henry Bihamu, the Kanoni sub-county Vice chairperson and Kabandize Peter Tizikara, the Mbogo Parish Councillor, requested that UNRA should take over full control of this road from Kazo District Local Government because it has failed to prioritize it, making it impassable for people and vehicles.
The residents say they have been reporting about its sorry state to the district officials who promised to work on it after the rains, but all in vain and they have continuously suffered so many loses and accidents.
Obed Timbangaya, the Political assistant to Hon. Jennifer Muheesi, promised that their office will continue extending various forms of social services to the people of Kanoni sub-county and Kazo at large.
The rehabilitation works on the road have already begun and machines are already clearing bushes on the road.
The Archbishop of Church of Uganda, the most Rev Steven Kazimba Mugalu has condemned the terrorist attack on Mpondwe Lhubiliriha Secondary School in Kasese district.
Kazimba said it is unfortunate for the country still mourning her soldiers killed in Somalia that another tragedy has left such a huge number of people (students) dead.
According to reports, at least 42 people were killed in a suspected ADF attack on Friday night and these included students and two members of the local community who were killed outside the school.
Speaking at St. Emmanuel Kabwohe during his pastoral visit to Sheema, West Ankole diocese, Kazimba urged these cowardly people to stop attacking schools and killing innocent souls and appealed to government to improve on security to ensure people’s lives are protected.

Speaking during the same function, Rosemary Nyakikongoro, the woman Member of Parliament who doubles as chairperson parliamentary defense committee condemned the attack and asked government to increase funding for security saying they need to re-strategize and refocus on security of the country.
During the same visit, Christians in Sheema were left disappointed after the Archbishop said that there will be no creation of a new diocese.
Archbishop Kazimba said that he received the request from Sheema demanding the creation of new diocese of central Ankole diocese which the provincial committee referred back to diocesan synod and synod will establish the committee to stir up the process.
Kazimba advised Christians to follow the right procedures and when the ban is lifted and they are found ready, they will be curved out from West Ankole diocese.
Mbarara City enforcement and Mbarara Referral Hospital security team have conducted a joint operation and nabbed seven female vendors accused of unlawfully operating in the hospital premises.
The developments have been confirmed by Halson Kagure, the Mbarara Referral Hospital Public Relations Officer who noted that the hospital administration has been speaking tough against vendors accessing the premises.
It is said that in 2022, there was a meeting which resolved to ban the operations of hawkers within and outside the hospital premises but all in vain.
Kagure urged Mbarara City Council to guide vendors and designate an area where they can freely transact their businesses and earn a living.
According to Kagure the suspects were produced before the Mbarara City Council grade one magistrate and were remanded until 20th June 2023.
Relatedly, recently, a woman identified as Doreen Amutuhaire was arrested in the hospital after she admitted to having been deployed by the purported witchdoctor in Mitooma to sneak ignorant patients into shrines.
Police have since embarked on gathering pieces of evidence that will lead to the arrest of the said witchdoctor.
