Fire Destroys Boys’ Dormitory at Primary School-Maate
A fire outbreak has caused significant damage at Mbeinenamukama Innocent Child Care Nursery and Primary School in Karukuba Cell, Ntarabana Parish, Buhara Sub-county, Kabale district. The incident occurred on the night of March 30, 2026.
According to reports, a call was received around 9:00 pm through the telephone exchange from the school’s director, Mbeinenamukama Innocent who reported that a fire had broken out at the school. Responding to the emergency, a fire tender vehicle (M/V UP 4719) commanded by Sergeant Driver Bikorwomuhangi Andrew with support from SP Muhanguzi Moses and the firefighting crew, was dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that the fire had gutted one of the rooms on the third floor which was being used as a boys’ dormitory. The fire was quickly brought under control but not before causing severe damage to the structure and property including beds, books, clothing and mattresses. The firefighting efforts saved the entire structure and surrounding areas with no loss of life reported.
ASP Elly Mate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident and indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the fire was likely caused by a short circuit. He emphasized that efforts are ongoing to determine the exact cause and to prevent future occurrences.
The damages are estimated at around UGX30m. Present at the scene were the school’s director, Mbeinenamukama Innocent, Head Teacher Ahisibwe Merecerina, teachers and local residents.
