Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the murder of Vicent Kawesi,25, from Uganda Technical College commonly known as Kahaya. The tragic incident occurred on the night of March 18 in Kahaya Village, Rwentuha Town Council.

Martial Tumusiime, spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Police confirmed that Kawesi was a student at the college and had left campus that evening for leisure activities. His body was discovered on March 19, at approximately 7:30 AM by local residents along the roadside in Kahaya Village, adjacent to the Bushenyi-Mbarara Highway.

Sgt. Rajab Kutosi of Rwentuha Police Station reported that they received a phone call about the situation and acted swiftly to investigate further. Upon discovery, Kawesi’s body was found lying on its chest, with blood oozing from his mouth and nose. The condition of the body suggested significant trauma, as there were indications that his neck was loose.

Police are conducting an ongoing investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding this heinous crime.

A 21-year-old woman, Charity Ayebazibwe, has been arrested by police in Bushenyi District on allegations of infanticide following the death of her five-months-old child. The incident reportedly occurred on February 27 at around 9:00 PM in Kigongo LC 1, Kyamuhunga Sub County.

Martial Tumusiime, spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the details of the case, stating that the child had been suffering from a severe illness prior to her death. Ayebazibwe, a bar operator and resident of Bugongo LC I, had not been in contact with the child’s father for some time due to issues of child neglect.

Following the child’s death, Tumusiime reported that Ayebazibwe claimed she had nowhere to bury the body and subsequently disposed of it in a pit latrine. Concerns from local residents arose on March 17, when they noticed Ayebazibwe with only one child despite knowing she had previously cared for two.

When questioned by community members, Ayebazibwe admitted that her baby had died and disclosed the location of the body leading to her arrest and further police inquiries.

The investigations into the matter are ongoing as police seek to determine the full circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

Police in Sheema District are investigating a shocking incident of murder and aggravated robbery that occurred on March 17 in Rushoroza Cell, Nyanga Ward, Kabwohe Division. The body of 25-year-old Anitah Nsimenta, a local businesswoman was discovered in her home, prompting an immediate search for the unknown assailants.

According to Martial Tumusiime, spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Police, Nsimenta was the wife of Cenan Atwiine, a resident of Nyihanga Town in Rwampara District where he runs a business. Concerned after several unsuccessful attempts to reach his wife by phone, Atwiine traveled to her residence to check on her.

Upon arrival, Atwiine noticed that Nsimenta’s mattress and bag were missing. He reported the matter to the police and while he was at the station, neighbors alerted him that they had found Nsimenta’s body lying in the corridor leading to the bathroom.

Tumusiime reported that the deceased was discovered with a sisal rope around her neck and blood was oozing from her nose and mouth alongside visible injuries to her face.

Local residents have named a boda boda rider identified as Jonathan as a key suspect in the case, indicating he may have fled the scene with an unspecified amount of cash, Nsimenta’s mattress, suitcase and other household items.

The police are actively pursuing leads in the investigation as they seek to apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime. As the inquiry continues, authorities urge anyone with information about the case to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Ms. Pathy Mbabazi, the Bushenyi District National Unity Platform (NUP) registrar was granted bail on Wednesday March 19 by the Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Bushenyi following her arrest on charges of computer misuse. Mbabazi was detained on April 3, in Katungu Cell, Ward 3, Ishaka Division for allegedly making hate speech against President Yoweri Museveni and his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba who also serves as the Chief of Defence Forces.

Presiding magistrate Emmanuel Niyokwizera stated that Mbabazi had no prior criminal record which contributed to the court’s decision to grant her bail. After considering the submissions from both the defense and the prosecution, Niyokwizera ruled in favor of bail, setting the amount at Ugx100,000. Additionally, each of the sureties provided by the accused was required to sign for Ugx 5,000,000 although this was not a cash bail.

The court has scheduled Mbabazi’s next appearance for April 16, 2025. Niyokwizera assured that the bail money would be refunded after the resolution of the case.

Joshua Tumukunde, the lead defense lawyer from Mugisha Arnold & Company Advocates argued that Mbabazi is a first-time offender and a single mother, advocating for her release.

In response to the ruling, Godfrey Bainomugisha, the NUP District chairman, expressed satisfaction stating that the court’s decision demonstrated that justice prevails even in controversial matters. Bainomugisha emphasized that such minor issues should not provoke anger from the president and his family.

The case has attracted significant attention, reflecting ongoing tensions in the political landscape of Uganda.

Residents of Kanyara-Nyaruhanda, Kikondo ward in Kabujogyera Town Council Kitagwenda district are in shock following allegations that Levi Amarakutunga also known as DJ Levi Nyamagoya sacrificed his brother’s four-year-old daughter, Trinnah Aineomugisha.

The incident has sent ripples of fear and outrage through the area where the alleged crime took place.

According to Mr. Patrick Rutehanda, the chairman of Kanyara-Nyaruhanda cell, this is not the first time concerns have been raised about DJ Levi’s alleged involvement in sacrificial rituals for financial gain. Rutehanda emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “This has raised alarm bells in our community, and we cannot let such actions go unchecked.”

Witnesses claim that the police dog used in the investigation tracked the suspect’s scent directly to his residence leading law enforcement to reportedly surround the house for further questioning.

Daniel Muhumuza, a resident expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic event highlighting the profound impact it has had on the community. “We are all devastated by what has happened; this is unthinkable,” he said.

The father of the victim, Baker Vincent recounted his last moments with Aineomugisha before the tragedy struck, noting that he saw her around 4:00 PM the previous day. “I can’t believe my daughter is gone; we need justice for her,” he told reporters.

DJ Levi has been taken into custody at the Kitagwenda Central Police Station, while investigations are ongoing. The body of the young girl was transported to Kitagwenda Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.

The Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports, Rev. Can. Dr. Dancuns Mugumya has asked School Management Committees (SMCs) during a one-day workshop held at St. Paul Kitagata Archdeaconry. He warned against any actions that could undermine school programs urging SMC members to actively participate in the educational and extracurricular development of students.

The workshop was attended by headteachers, Parent-Teacher Association members and management committee chairpersons from church-founded schools within the Archdeaconry and aimed at fostering a collaborative approach to educational improvement.
