Police Arrest Businessman Over Alleged Shs500M Robbery
Police in Rubirizi district are investigating a high-profile robbery case involving a local businessman who claims to have been robbed of Shs500million by masked assailants.
According to the Greater Bushenyi Regional Acting Police Spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, the suspect, identified as Kiiza Robert, 38, a Mufumbira from Buhera Central, Nyakashaaru Ward in Rubirizi Town Council was detained on June 11, 2025 after inconsistencies emerged in his account of the incident.
Kiiza reportedly told police that on June 9, 2025, at around 4:00 p.m.was ambushed by four unidentified masked men while traveling in an omnibus vehicle locally known as a drone near Enkombe Forest in Rubirizi District. He claimed that the assailants robbed him of the Shs500 million he was transporting to Ishaka-Bushenyi where he planned to spend the night before depositing the money the following day.
However, during police investigations, detectives identified several discrepancies in Kiiza’s statements, prompting their immediate action. He was detained for further questioning, and a search of his belongings yielded Shs118,025,000 in cash, which has been secured as part of the ongoing probe.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the recovered money is related to the alleged robbery or if other motives are at play.
