Ntungamo: Mother and son arrested for murder

Police in Ntungamo have arrested a woman and her son for the murder of her husband.

The deceased has been identified as Tiwangye Appolo a resident of Rwakashana cell, Nyarubare parish, Ntungamo sub-county Ntungamo District.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region Police Spokesperson revealed that upon receiving the report, a team of officers from Homicide with the help of the K9 unit responded and cordoned off the scene.

He added that the team introduced the police sniffer dog which picked the scent and led the officers to the home of the deceased’s second wife identified as Arinaitwe Agnes.

Police instituted a search and the phone belonging to the deceased was recovered with blood stains.

Kasasira noted that police has since established that the couple had a long-standing domestic wrangle.

Arinaitwe and her son have since been arrested to help with investigations.

Sheema: Prominent Businessman arrested for child ritual sacrifice

Police in Sheema have arrested a suspect identified as Kamugisha Joseph, alias Barimu, a money lender, prominent farmer and businessman, in connection with the disappearance of Kemigisha Christabel, a two-year girl victim, on the 18th July 2022, at Mutanoga cell, Kigarama sub-county in the Sheema district.

Byamukama Justus, the prime suspect admitted to kidnapping the victim, from the grand father’s home, a one Kakooma John which later turned into a murder, after the victim’s body was recovered.

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson revealed in a statement that the motive of the disappearance and murder, appears to be for ritualistic sacrifice.

He added that in conspiracy with Tumwesigye Clinton alias Musajja, the suspects cut the victim’s throat and collected blood and thereafter, and dumped the victim’s body in front of Constance’s home, a neighbor and resident of the same village.

Enanga revealed that after the arrest of Musajja, it was established that he was in touch with Barimu, the prominent farmer/businessman, on the night that the victim was kidnapped and murdered and further admitted that it was the rich man who sent them for the blood.

Enanga noted that exhibits of a hoe, blood-stained clothes, phone print-outs and the killer weapon were recovered and commended the task team for their efforts.

“We shall continue to monitor the progress of the case, to seek justice for the victim,” said Enanga.

Enanga called upon the business community to come up with stronger measures of profiling and auditing the activities of all business persons in coordination with our intelligence components of CI, ISO, and CMI to help weed out brutal persons, who take advantage of young juveniles, in search of wealth and prosperity.

34 confirmed dead after bus plunges into a river

Up to 34 people have been confirmed dead after a bus belonging to Modern Coast Company travelling from Meru to the port city of Mombasa veered off the Nithi Bridge and plunged into the Nithi River, along Meru-Nairobi highway in Tharaka Nithi county, Western Kenya on Sunday evening.

Evans Achoki, the Eastern Regional Commissioner said bodies have been retrieved from the wreckage of the ill-fated bus, with the death toll currently standing at 34. 

Responders in an attempt to rescue the survivors from the river. 

The Police said 11 survivors; all male are receiving treatment at Chuka County Referral Hospital, St Theresa Kiirua Mission Hospital Meru and St Peters Hospital Nairobi with some nursing serious injuries and the search for more bodies in the river continues.

Nobert Komora, the Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner was quoted by the Nation saying that preliminary investigations showed that the bus’s brakes may have failed, preventing its driver from properly turning on a sharp bend at the bridge.

Komora said they were also working to retrieve the bus wreckage from the scene of the accident. 

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has since halted the operations of Modern Coast Express Limited.

“A thorough multi-agency investigation into the crash and an evaluation of the operator’s safety operational standards is currently underway,” said George Njao NTSA Director General in a statement.

Parents count losses after Iganga High School registers another fire outbreak in less than a month.

Angry parents have stormed Iganga High School demanding an explanation after another fire outbreak happened today morning and destroyed a dormitory barely a month after the last fire outbreak.

Hajji Abubaker Walubi, the Chairperson Parents’ Teacher’s Association(PTA) confirmed the fire outbreak adding that many of the students were already in class for morning preps when the fire broke out. 

The fire that is thought to have started around 6am affected a S.3 dormitory housing over 67 students and destroyed property worth millions of shillings including mattresses, clothes and other personal belongings.

The concerned parents rushed to the school this morning after learning about the fire from various sources and demanded entry into the school; they were however denied entry by the security guards.

The parents want the school to set up CCTV surveillance cameras at all dormitories to track possible culprits behind the fires.

Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East Police Spokesperson says that they have launched investigations into the possible cause of the fire.

Kazo: 28 year old man beaten into comma for allegedly stealing two goats

Police in Kazo are investigating circumstances under which a 28 year old man was beaten to comma by unknown people.

Kato Elias, a resident of Nyungu II village, Nyungu Parish, Kyampangara Sub-county, who has been working as a casual labourer in Bugarihe Parish, Rwemikoma Sub-county, Kazo District was on Saturday attacked by the mob after he was reportedly found slaughtering two goats that did not belong to him.

Kato however denies having stolen the goats saying the goats were given to him.

Police has since picked him and taken him to Kazo HCIV where he is currently receiving treatment as investigations into the matter continue.

UPDF Officer detained for allegedly trying to shoot a traffic police officer who was on duty.

Police in Kampala have arrested a UPDF solider identified as Herbert Kakama attached to Chief of Training and Recruitment, Mbuya, after he appeared in the video making rounds on social media where he is seen wrestling two traffic police officers to the ground.

In an incident that happened on Saturday, the UPDF officer RA 080643 WO1 had parked his vehicle REG No. UBK 210V at Kibuye roundabout and blocked big trucks from joining the roundabout which raised the concern of the traffic officers.

It is said that when one of the traffic police officers tried to engage the UPDF officer asking him to remove the vehicle as it was not safe for the other road users, he pulled out a gun and tried to fix a magazine in an attempt to shoot at them, prompting the other traffic police officer to join the scuffle.

The suspect was consequently overpowered as they wrestled him to the ground, disarmed and arrested him before being dragged to Katwe Police Station where he is currently detained.

Police officers privy to the matter revealed that they have opened up attempted murder charges against the suspect.

NITA-U commissions the Regional Communication Infrastructure Project (RCIP) in Mbarara

In a bid to boost Social-economic development using technology and digitalized services in Ankole Region, National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U) has commissioned the Regional Communication Infrastructure Project (RCIP) in Mbarara city.

The Regional communication infrastructure program (RCIP) is a world bank group regional instrument aimed at catalyzing private sector Investment to improve connectivity in East and Southern Africa.

Commissioning the RCIP on Thursday in Mbarara, Ayebare Magaret Rwebyambu the woman MP Mbarara district commended this initiative as it will help in curbing down the growing trend of criminality in the country as Suspects will be tracked on Closed circuit cameras of police. Adding that; this project will enhance service delivery especially with in security, health, schools and local Governments in terms of services.

She however implored local leaders to roll out sensitization programs of the youth on how best they can tap on the connectivity of NITA-U to solve the unemployment trend among the youth.

Dr Annabela Basaza, a Board member at NITA-U revealed that the scoop of the Regional Communication infrastructure project (RCIP) has been to provide connectivity to more than 52 Districts around the country.

Didas Tabaro, the LC V Chairman Mbarara district commended this initiative noting that it will save the district and the government at Large, the money spent on travels of officials. 

Kanungu: Man killed while responding to neighboring couple’s fight

Police in Kanungu District have arrested a 40 year old man identified as Stephen Niwagaba for allegedly murdering a 53 year old man who attempted to rescue his wife from being beaten.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesman confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Geoffrey Mbahita, a resident of Bushanja cell, Northern ward, Kanungu District. It is reported that the deceased was responding to an alarm made by the suspect’s wife as she was being beaten by the suspect at their home.

Maate told journalists that the incident allegedly that took place on Tuesday night at the above address when the deceased, in the act of trying to separate them annoyed the suspect who cut him with a panga several times and he later succumbed to injuries.

Banet Atuhaire, one of the residents informed the police and they swiftly visited and documented the scene and retrieved the body to Kanungu Health centre IV mortuary for postmortem examination.

Maate disclosed that at the time of visiting the scene, Nuwagaba (the suspect) had fled the scene.  

Muhereza Charles, the OC Kanungu Police Station says the suspect was later arrested and is currently detained at Kanungu District Central Police Station waiting to be charged in court of law for murder.

Four arrested for allegedly taking part in the disappearance and Murder of a three year old child

Detectives at Natete Police station are investigating the case involving Nangobi Leticia,3, which was first reported as a disappearance case but later turned into a murder.

On the 21/04/2022, Mutenda Nicholas,32 the child’s father and resident of Natete Mbawo zone Rubaga division Kampala reported to Natete Police station the disappearance of his daughter Nangobi Leticia from their home in Mbawo zone.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Police Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan revealed that officers immediately instituted investigations that later led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Ahimbisibwe Dative, a female adult, Mutebi Patrick and Namanda Gertrude who were however released on police bond.

Owoyesigire noted that the team has however received new information that Ahimbisibwe Dative and Ssemakula John (her husband) had something to do with the murder. Her associates Asiimwe Anthony and Mugenyi Alex were all interviewed.

Asiimwe Anthony confessed to having participated in transportation of the deceased’s body on orders of Ahimbisibwe and buried the body in areas of Nakasozi Mpangala, Kyengera town council.

Through investigations into this disappearance as required by the office of the Resident State Attorney, the team recovered a motorcycle REG No. UDH 501W which was allegedly used to transport the body of the deceased child.

On Tuesday, 19th July 2022, a team of detectives was able to locate the burial site and exhumed the remains, which have been conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for postmortem.

“The four suspects in our custody at Natete Police station and will be charged with Murder,” said Owoyesigire.

5 arrested for murder of a two year old child in Sheema.

Territorial Police in Greater Bushenyi are actively investigating circumstances under which a two and a half year old female juvenile identified as Christabella Kemigisha was murdered in Sheema district.

Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesman revealed in a statement that the deceased who was residing with her mother one Nuwarimpa Stella, a resident of Mutanoga cell, Kigarama parish, Kigarama sub-county in Sheema district was killed and her body dumped in front of their neighbours’ home identified only as Constance.

It is reported that on Monday, the deceased disappeared from her grandfather’s home until her body was found dumped at the home of their neighbour on Wednesday.

Tumusiime explains that a team of police officers of homicide detectives including SOCO and canine visited the scene whereby with the help of the Police sniffer dog, exhibits including a hoe, a log and clothes of the deceased were recovered at the house of Byamukama Justus, stained with blood.

Police has since arrested and detained Byamukama together with 4 accomplices as investigations into the matter continue.

Tumusiime condemned such brutal and cold-blooded acts of murder adding that the body of the deceased has been conveyed to Kabwohe health center IV for postmortem examination.
