Police Investigate Murder of 79-Year-Old Man -Rukungiri

Police in Rukungiri district are investigating the mysterious death of Benard Biryomumisho,79, whose body was found in his house on July 7 in Kasharara Village, Ibanda Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county, Rubabo County.

According to reports, Biryomumisho was last seen in the Nyarushanje trading center on July 5 around 4:00 pm heading home. He was known to live alone at his residence. It is alleged that the assailants gained entry into his house through the door entered his bedroom and inflicted multiple cuts on his head resulting in his instant death. The suspects then fled the scene with half a sack of coffee.

The incident was discovered on the afternoon of July 7 when the deceased’s son, Ndyareba Boneventure visited the home around 3:30 pm. Upon attempting to open the door, he found Biryomumisho dead in his bed. Police from Rubabo arrived at the scene where a team including a canine unit conducted investigations, processed evidence and documented the scene.

The body was transported to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for a postmortem examination. Authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the murder and are actively working to identify and apprehend the suspects. Efforts are ongoing to ensure justice is served.

Isingiro district NRM leaders summoned by party electoral body

National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders from Isingiro district have been summoned together with rival NRM candidates for Isingiro South; the incumbent Member of Parliament, Alex Byarugaba Bakunda and his arch-challenger Mujuni Maari Asensio before NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi in Kampala on Wednesday. The aim is to find a lasting solution to ongoing political tensions in the district.

This followed a meeting chaired by Col. James Mwesigye and attended by Isingiro RDC Adah Nasiima, Minister of State for Animal Industry Rtd. Col. Bright Rwamirama and NRM District Chairperson Rtd. Lt. Moses Mushabe. The meeting was convened in response to recent political violence that resulted in property damage and the death of Lauben Ngurusi, a resident of Kihande Cell, Ruyanga Sub-county.

The closed-door session, from which journalists were barred also resolved that individuals captured in viral videos destroying property should be arrested and prosecuted.

Speaking to our reporter after the meeting, Mushabe condemned the violence warning that the district NRM leadership would not tolerate further chaos. Mushabe further announced that joint campaigns in Isingiro South remain suspended. He also revealed that previous mediation efforts between the two factions had failed to produce progress.

MP Bakunda accused his opponent, Mujuni Maari Asensio of instigating the violence. In response, Asensio called for calm and denied involvement of his supporters in any acts of violence.

Bakunda, who is also seeking re-election, expressed that the violence has affected him personally. Meanwhile, Rtd. Col. Rwamirama indicated that reconciliation efforts between the candidates are ongoing.

Report officers who ask for bribes-NIRA official

The Officer in Charge of Uganda National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) for Kiruhura and Kazo districts, Mr. George Mugimba has asked people in those areas to participate in the ongoing process of registering, renewing and replacing National Identification Cards (IDs).

Mugimba further revealed that the exercise is free for all Ugandans for all the services identified. Speaking to our reporter, Mugimba stated that since the exercise began on May 27, there has been a significant response from the public. The process targets individuals replacing lost IDs, renewing existing ones and registering new IDs including for newborns.

Mugimba emphasized that possessing a National ID will facilitate easier access to government services. He urged residents to report any instances where money is being solicited for in this exercise to NIRA authorities.

The Kiruhura District Chairman, Dan Mukago also called on all residents of Kiruhura in particular and Ugandans in general to participate actively in the registration process.

Kimosho Rallies Kazo for Museveni,Vows Continued Development

On July 1, 2025, Hon. Dan Kimosho, Member of Parliament for Kazo, launched a vibrant campaign rally at Kazo Model Playgrounds to bolster support for his leadership and President Yoweri Museveni’s re-election bid.

The event attracted a large, enthusiastic crowd of supporters, showcasing Kimosho’s strong influence in the district. Local leaders from across Kazo District warmly welcomed Hon. Kimosho at the Kazo-Ibanda border, escorting him to the rally.

They praised his dedication to improving service delivery and driving development in the region. Addressing the gathering, Kimosho, flanked by district leaders, urged supporters to back President Museveni with a “100% vote,” emphasizing his commitment to furthering Kazo’s progress.

NRM Kazo District Chairperson, Mr. Wilson Nkaija, also spoke at the event, calling for unity and encouraging residents to vote for NRM candidates without tribal bias or segregation.

The crowd, energized by the speeches, offered prayers for Kimosho’s continued leadership and urged him to complete ongoing development projects in the district.

The rally, attended by all NRM chairpersons and local leaders, underscored Hon. Kimosho’s widespread popularity and the strong community support for his and President Museveni’s vision for Kazo’s future.

Prof. Kamuntu pledges improved service delivery

Senior Presidential Advisor on Manifesto Implementation, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu has pledged to lobby the government for the tarmacking of the Kabwohe–Kitagata–Kabira–Rukungiri road if elected as Member of Parliament for Sheema South. The commitment was made during the conclusion of his six-day manifesto launch across the six subcounties in the constituency.

Addressing a gathering of supporters on Monday, June 30, 2025 in Shuuku Town Council, Kamuntu highlighted the importance of the road which is included in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) manifesto but has suffered from neglect due to what he described as a lack of effective follow-up by current leadership.

In addition to the road project, Kamuntu pledged to advocate for the construction of a tea factory and the tarmacking of the Nyeihanga–Kishabya road initiatives he believes will enhance transportation of goods and boost tea marketing in the region.

The former legislator who served as the Member of Parliament for Sheema South from 2016 to 2021 also expressed concern over stalled development projects including electricity and water initiatives he had initiated during his tenure. He assured supporters that improving health services, extending electricity access, providing safe water and developing road networks across Sheema South would be his priorities if elected.

Kamuntu’s campaign continues to focus on infrastructure development and service delivery with supporters optimistic about the prospects of these commitments translating into tangible improvements for the region.

Rev.Kachampire withdraws candidature, returns to spiritual calling

Ben Kachampire, a former lay leader under Kazo Archdeaconry who had recently stepped down from his church role to pursue a political career in Kazo Sub County has announced his decision to withdraw from politics and return to his spiritual calling.

During a meeting held at the old Church of Uganda in Kazo Archdeaconry this afternoon, church leaders including Rev. Festo Mwebaza acting on behalf of Rev. Canon Kwesiga Emmanuel, the Kazo Archdeacon urged Kachampire to resume his service in the church and continue serving God.

In response, Kachampire publicly announced his withdrawal from the political race apologizing to his supporters and emphasizing the importance of heeding the counsel of elders to serve God’s purpose. He expressed gratitude for the support received during his political pursuit and pledged to dedicate himself fully to church work.

Retired Can. Rev. Adrame Tugaine confirmed that the church facilitated the meeting and described Kakyampire’s decision as a divine calling from God highlighting the significance of spiritual service over political ambitions at this time.

The move has been met with support from church members and community leaders who commend Kachampire for prioritizing his faith and service to God.

Kanungu Police investigate death of 30 year old woman

Authorities in Kanungu district are investigating the mysterious death of 30-year-old Atwikirize Mackline whose body was found early in the morning of June 28, 2025, at St. Andrews Catholic Church playground.

Mackline, a resident of Mukirwa Cell, Kinaaba Sub-County was reportedly last seen alive the evening before. On June 27, she sold her pig and matooke at a total of UGX 900,000 then went to Kinaaba Market to purchase clothes. Later that evening, she was seen at a bar with some unidentified men consuming alcohol.

Mackline reportedly left the bar at around 11:00 pm in the company of the same men heading back home. Her body was discovered by children heading to the garden the following morning at the church grounds.

The police have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. A crime scene investigation was conducted and a sniffer dog was brought in to assist. The dog’s trails led to the arrest of one suspect who is currently in custody to aid ongoing inquiries.

A postmortem examination was carried out at the scene and the body has been released to her family for burial. Authorities have assured the public that they are committed to uncovering the truth behind Mackline’s death and will continue their investigations.

Man, 30, shot dead in Kazo Town council

Police in Kazo district are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of Allan Mugisha, 30 a resident of Bwesirabo cell, Kazo Central Ward, Kazo Town Council. Mugisha was found dead alongside the Kazo-Rushere road with reports indicating he was shot by a bullet.

According to eyewitness accounts, Mugisha’s body was discovered lying on the roadside prompting immediate concern among residents and family members. The family has called on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Sources suggest that Mugisha was allegedly shot by a security guard employed by Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited, Kazo branch. However, authorities are yet to release an official statement confirming the details of the incident.

Family members and community leaders have expressed shock and are urging law enforcement to establish the true cause of the tragedy. “We want justice for Allan. We need to know why and how this happened,” said a family representative.

Police have assured the public that they are investigating the matter diligently promising to uncover the facts and bring clarity to the case. As the investigation continues, the community remains hopeful for answers and justice for Mugisha.

Man sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Assaulting Wife

The Ibanda District Chief Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Vincent Byarugaba, 52, resident of Kategure in Kanyambogo, Kicuzi sub-county to three years in prison for physically assaulting his wife, Rose Kyomugasho by cutting her multiple times.

Byarugaba confessed to causing actual bodily harm to his wife on March 17, 2025 and pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Agnes Shelagh Nantaawo on June 25. The court convicted him on his own plea with the sentence to run for three years excluding the time he had already spent in remand.

Prosecution led by Ali Ssemakula had requested a punitive sentence emphasizing the need to “teach him a lesson,” despite Byarugaba having no previous criminal record.

In delivering the sentence, Magistrate Nantaawo highlighted that domestic violence was a common issue in the Ibanda area. She emphasized that the convict required time for rehabilitation and that the wife and children needed protection from him for the foreseeable future.

The magistrate also advised that if any party was dissatisfied with the ruling they could appeal within 14 days.

Earlier, Kyomugasho, 48 told the court that her husband was a habitual wife-beater and an alcoholic. She also revealed that he had destroyed all the family’s property cutting it to pieces during the attack.

Teachers Urged to Focus on Doubling Earnings and Improving Well-Being

Teachers have been encouraged to prioritize increasing their earnings and improving their overall well-being over mere motivation as they seek sustainable ways to enhance their livelihoods. This call was made by Bushenyi Municipal Education Officer, Dan Mugyenyi during the official handing over of funds worth UGX538 million, pledged by President Yoweri Museveni to teachers’ unions at Decon Guest House in Bushenyi Town.

Mugyenyi emphasized that issues of salary discrimination especially affecting arts teachers are demoralizing and must be addressed. He urged teachers to consider creating side income-generating projects using the funds provided by the government as seed capital which can serve as a foundation to boost their monthly earnings and financial stability.

Andrew Kwete, Chairman of the Uganda Liberal Teachers Sacco also noted that President Museveni had previously pledged support to teachers’ unions during the 2023 celebrations. Last year, the Uganda Liberal Teachers Union received 6.6 billion shillings from the government. Kwete urged beneficiary teachers to empower themselves economically highlighting that such efforts would significantly improve their living standards. He lauded President Museveni for the ongoing support to teachers’ unions.

Denis Mwebaze, Western Region Coordinator also praised President Museveni and the First Lady who is also the Minister of Education, Janet Museveni for their continued support. He noted that the disbursed funds which are being extended as loans to teachers will greatly enhance their welfare and help address some of the financial challenges faced by educators.

The event underscores the government’s commitment to supporting teachers’ welfare and encouraging economic empowerment among educators to foster a more motivated and financially stable teaching workforce.
