Police in Mitooma District are on a hunt for a witch doctor who allegedly murdered a 45year old man by poisoning. This happened in Butagatsi village, Mushunga Parish,  Mitooma Sub county.

The Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, Martial Tumusiime, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Emmanuel Nshimeyimana, 45, a Mufumbira by tribe and a resident of Nyamwegabira village, Rubumba Parish , Nkoko Sub county in Kakumiro District.

It is reported that on Wednesday July 3rd, the deceased  left his home in Kakumiro District together with his wife Ruth Muhairwe while riding on a motorcycle registration number UFV 524 Q.

The duo together with Patrick Mukiisa headed for Mitooma to seek help from ‘traditional medicine men’ who track people. Reports further reveal that the couple had lost shop items to thugs who broke into their shop and went away items worth millions of money. They went to Mitooma with hope that they would be helped to track the robbers.

Tumusiime said that they ended up at the home of a one Kabyogamu a known conman who administered a drink that intoxicated the deceased after taking Shs 500,000 from him. The deceased died in the witch doctor’s house shortly after taking the drink.

The LCI Chairperson for Ruti village, in Kashenshero Town Council, Venensio Kansiiime, 56, said the deceased’s body was picked from the house by accomplices of Kabyogamu, loaded it on motor vehicle registration number  UAK393T and dumped it in Kashenshero Sub County.  

Tumusiime said the body was recovered from Ruti where it had been dumped and delivered to Kitagata Hospital in Sheema District for post mortem.

Christians of North Ankole Diocese have been encouraged to strongly maintain revival as well as uphold truthfulness like it was handed down to them by those who picked the seed of Christianity in the diocese and nurtured it to what is seen today.

This message was delivered yesterday July 1st by the Bishop of North Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Alfred Muhoozi at Emmanuel Cathedral Rushere in Kiruhura district. The prelate was speaking at a Thanksgiving and commemoration of revival in the diocese.

He revealed that revival uplifted people from backwardness to spiritual modernity and cited some of the practices that have been dealt a blow by revival to give way to better practices that have shaped up life. He said that people have learnt to clean their bodies thus fighting parasites such as lice which had taken toll on human life.

Bishop Emeritus, Rt. Rev. John Muhanguzi, the founding bishop of this diocese encouraged Christians to make and treat their bodies as temples of God by using them to do what is right, just and acceptable before God in order to re-affirm their revival.

The former Lwemiyaga County Member of Parliament in Ssembabule district, Hon. Sam Rwakoojo was the Chief Guest at the function. He reminded Christians that people who received revival long ago spread the gospel with zeal, love, truth, patience and enthusiasm. They also encouraged education in their areas of operation by constructing schools.

Rwakoojo revealed that even those who went to the bush to fight against bad governance in Uganda who were led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni were products of revival. He encouraged people to always take chance and reap from the seeds of revival that were sowed in their area.

Celebration of revival and Thanksgiving occur annually in the diocese.

Students of Plus Two High School-Bushenyi and youths generally have been urged to desist from drug abuse if they are to be important in future.

The call was made by Bernard Ngoboka, director of Arukah House Uganda, a rehabilitation centre dealing with the rehabilitation of drug addicts. This was during a health talk delivered to students of Plus Two High School-Bushenyi on drugs and substance addictions at the school premises in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality yesterday. 

He revealed that school going children especially those in urban schools have been mostly affected by these vices. 

According to a 2021 report from Makerere University school of psychology, Shisha, Khat, Marijuana, Heroin, Cigarette, Cocaine and Alcohol are among the most abused drugs and substances by school going children. 

 Ngoboka said that the use of these drugs and substances starts in secondary schools and that learners carry these habits as they progress to higher levels of education. 

Strict rules set by school authorities and families, peer pressure, family back ground are among key factors responsible for increased drug use among students.

Akampwera Arc Kwokukizire, the Deputy Headteacher in charge of Administration, Discipline and welfare, Plus Two High School-Bushenyi revealed that addiction to drugs is a common offence and acknowledged that students use various substances smuggled into schools using various tactics. 

He further said that sometimes it is hard to identify these drugs since the manufacturers have also learnt to manufacture these drugs within food substances that students carry to schools.

Akampwera said that as a school, they have put measures to identify those students who are suspected to be drug and substance addicts so that they could be helped to overcome the life-threatening vice through providing specialised psychosocial support to the victims .

The assistant RDC Ntungamo Twakira Daniel Ntoreine has implored political and civil leaders to intensify fight against absenteeism and bribes amongst health workers at health facilities across the country.

The assistant RDC Twakira said this today during the commissioning of modern bathrooms with showers at Ntungamo Health center IV commonly known as Penta Ntungamo Municipality.

He noted that there have been rampant cases of absenteeism and bribes of some health workers who normally appear at the health units to sign in and out but never worked.

Twakira hailed the in charge Dr Kansiiime Julius and health workers at Ntungamo Health center IV for the good work done.

The Mayor Ntungamo Municipality Jacob Kafureeka jack Jex urged all leaders to always use media as the only way to cascade the government achievements in their areas of jurisdiction.

Kafureeka accompanied by his deputy Kyomukama Loy Tumwesigye thanked senior assistant town clerk Ainomugisha Coleta and chairman LCIII Central Division for utilizing the funds diligently.

The chairman LCIII Central Division Robert Mugisha Kanyaate thanked the technical team and political leaders for the cooperation that enabled the Division to construct the first ever modern bathrooms to help the expectant mothers and all patients at large to normally come at the facility.

The senior assistant town clerk Central Division Ainomugisha Coleta asked the leaders to keep the spirit of unity and prioritize their health facility since it admits many people from in and around Ntungamo Municipality.

She thanked the municipal leaders for considering Ntungamo Health center IV and noted that the facility cost UGX 19M.

The chairperson health management committee Lion Byamukama Wilson tasked the leaders to install and equip a theater which has been nonfunctional for several years.

Lion Byamukama also thanked the leaders and committee members for being cooperative and supportive

Other speakers were Dr Kansiime Julius, deputy mayor Kyomukama Loy Tumwesigye and area councilor Duncan Muhairwe.

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities has organized a capacity building training program from thirty districts in the western and central regions of Uganda, focusing on educating them about their rights as outlined in the Uganda Persons with Disabilities Act of 2020.

The two days program seeks to among others things, empower persons with disabilities to understand and advocate for their basic rights at the community and national level.

Addressing the participants at the training at Igongo country hotel and cultural center in Mbarara city on Monday, Lillian Namukasa the Executive secretary National Council for Persons with Disabilities said the training aimed at empowering persons with disabilities to speak up for themselves and be actively involved in all aspects of the society.

She stated that there was lack of awareness, especially among persons with disabilities about their rights and privileges in the society.

In his opening remarks, Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi, the mayor Mbarara city, advised civil servants who have been embezzling funds meant for persons with disabilities (PWDs) to cease their actions or be subjected to legal consequences.

Police in Bushenyi District are investigating circumstances under which a middle aged man committed a suicide by allegedly hanging himself in a lodge.

The Greater Bushenyi Region police spokesperson, Martial Tumusiime confirmed the incident which occurred on Thursday June 21 last at Planet Bar and Lodge in Kigoma Trading Center, Kizinda-Kigoma Town Council Bushenyi district.

Allegations show that on Jun 19, a man identified as Amon Amwesigye went to Planet Bar and Lodges to spend an evening but later asked for accommodation. He was accommodated in Room 1 of their Lodges by Moureen Kyosimire, the lodge attendant. 

Tumusiime revealed that the deceased requested for the padlock so that he could lock the door from the inside but the attendant did not give it to him. He further said that on Jun 20, in the morning, Anita Alinda, the owner of the bar, recovered Amwesigye’s lifeless body hanging on a rope which was tied on the ceiling timber. Alinda reported the incident to police for action.

The deceased’s body was conveyed to Kitagata Hospital for postmortem and further examination as investigations into the matter are on going.

The Ntungamo District members of parliament are at loggerheads with political and civil servants for shunning district roads committee meetings.

According to the district roads committee chairperson who is also Mp for Kajara county, Hon Timuzigu Michael Kamugisha, the letter dated 6^th June 2024 invited the members to meet yesterday 20th June 2024 at 9:00am in the district council Hall, but it was their dismay to receive another letter from district Engineer, Kushemererwa Charles, a few hours to the meeting that it had been postponed to a later date.

Hon Timuzigu noted that the district Eng usurped the powers of the chairperson Roads committee to postpone the meeting without his knowledge.

He revealed that it was a shock for all political and civil leaders including the chief administrative officer to shun the meeting expressing that there must be something they are hiding.

Hon Timuzigu assured the general public that the meeting has been rescheduled for today Friday 21th June, 2024 and if the district team fails to turn up, they will petition the Uganda Road fund and office of the IGG to swing into action to investigate if the UGX 1.7Bn road fund had been utilized efficiently.

He said that no money should be returned to the coffers yet the District roads are impassable.

The MP Rushenyi county Hon Naome Kabasharira noted that as MPs will not sit back and watch yet the road funds in the district are being mismanaged by the technocrats.

Hon Kabasharira noted that they had been requesting for the BOQs (Bill of Quantities) but in vain which raises a suspicion that there must be some rot in the district roads.

However, the postponement letter noted that the political and civil leaders are engaged in PDM work with the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala from 18^th to 21^st, June 2024.

Three inmates at Kiburara Government Prison Farm in Ibanda North County, Ibanda District face more years in Jail. The trio is suspected of breaking into the prison’s food store and running away with grains estimated at Ugx950,000.

They reportedly stole three sacks of beans estimated to weigh 350kg and about 20kg of maize.

Prison Sergeant Wilson Bigira, of Kiburara Government Prison Farm, told the Ibanda Grade 1 Magistrate’s Court yesterday, June 18 that Nicholas Byamukama, 21, Nelson Muhwezi, 30, and Ronald Kule, 25 reportedly took advantage of the early Sunday morning rains to steal the grains on March 31, 2024. Bigira was testifying as a prosecution witness.

Bigira told court which was presided over by Grade 1 magistrate, Esther Murungi that Muhwezi informed him about the theft. He further revealed that Muhwezi was working with the sergeant at the store as part of his rehabilitation.Muhwezi is suspected to be the mastermind of this act.

The trio faces two counts of breaking into the store with intention to steal which is contrary to section 297 of the Penal Code Act, and theft, which contravenes sections 254 (i) and 261 of the Penal Code Act.

The trio was remanded to the same prison till July 2 when hearing of prosecution witnesses will continue .

Police in Kazo district are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 45 year old woman. Rosset Tushabe, a mother of three, and a businesswoman who operated and resided in Meru Meru A, Kataraaza Parish, Nkungu Sub county,Kazo District, succumbed to the injuries sustained from cuts by a sharp object in the region of arms, waist and head.

The deceased was returning from her shop on Sunday June, 16 at around 9:30 pm when she met unknown assailants who cut her severally.
On the way to Kagongo Hospital in Ibanda district where she was being rushed to,Tushabe breathed her last.

Rev. Messach Kahembera , the father of two of the deceased’s three children intimated to our reporter that  some of his family members including his wife and son, are in custody at Kazo Central Police Station in this matter.

The LC I chairman, Meru Meru A, John Arinaitwe, has confirmed the arrest of the suspects identified as  Mary Busingye, 45 and Arthur Agaba, 29. The duo accused Tushabe of practicing witchcraft against them and threatened her life on several occasions.
The deceased has been laid to rest today at her home in Nkungu. May her soul rest in peace.

A 13 year old girl who went missing for close to eight months from Kagaramira Nkungu Sub County, Kazo district was yesterday reunited with her mother following an intensive search mounted by security operatives. At the time of her disappearance in January 2023, Nyamwija was 12 years old and was a pupil in Primary four.

Blessing Nyamwija was on Tuesday June 11 re-unified with her mother, Jescah Kemirembe amidst relief and joy. The teenager was found in Kakindu Kisubi Katabi Wakiso district yesterday.

According to Kemirembe, a one Goden Niwagira for whom she worked, asked to assist her by educating Nyamwija to which request she consented in January 2023. The girl was taken to Mbarara from where she went missing.

She reported the matter at Kazo Central Police Station and charges of child trafficking were preferred against Goden Niwagira, Nyamwija’s parternal uncle but the police authorities could not do much to alleviate her worries. She continued to receive threats to her life and took hostage at Kazo Victory Church in Kazo Town Council.

While speaking to our reporter on March 7,2024, a desolate Kemirembe intimated that she had not received any information about her daughter but rather received threats and being reminded about being poor but the faith in her kept her moving until yesterday when she embraced her daughter whom she feared had been sacrificed.

Kemirembe was visibly happy at receiving her daughter and she was apologetic to Niwagira,”I am sorry,I gave my child to you out of love, but I was angry because I never got clear feedback from you (Niwagira).I am very happy to have her back”, Kemirembe said.

Nuwagira expressed happiness upon receiving the girl in good health. He also revealed that he was so much worried about the life status of his niece.

Nyamwija, apologised to her mother for the pain she took her through and asked his uncle to also forgive her mother for the allegations that could have tainted his name.
