Police in Kazo in conjunction with the Ibanda Police have arrested two suspected cattle thieves.
John Lukooto, the District Police Commander (DPC) Kazo District has confirmed the development and identified the suspects as Lukwago Eddy aka Tumwiine, 42, and Ainebyoona Nicholas.
According to Lukooto, the suspects were intercepted by the police from Ibanda after getting tipped off by the concerned residents of Rwemengo parish in Kanoni sub-county.
Samuel Mugisha Katugunda the chairman LC V told journalists that several farmers in the entire district have lost animals like cows, goats pigs to these animal thieves and the crack down continues.
Katugunda asked the area residents to be vigilant and ensure that they work together to protect their animals from these thieves.
Lukooto revealed that the suspects will be charged in courts of law and the search for other cattle thieves continues.
Following the beginning of third term 2022 on Monday this week, Akengyeya Primary school found in Akengyeya Parish, Kyampangara Sub-county, Kazo district has registered a low turn up of learners.
Learners, parents and staff blame the low turn up on lack of proper pathway as the path that connects Akengyenya to Rwakakungu in Rwemikoma sub-county and Kagaramira in Nkungu Subcounty is currently impassable.

Baryamujura Emmanuel, a resident and a parent revealed that they mobilized themselves and constructed a temporary bridge, however, when it rained heavily, it was destroyed.
Baryamujura called upon the concerned authorities to intervene in this matter.

Residents in Akengyeya Cell, Akengyeya Parish, Kyampangara sub-county, Kazo District were left in shock after they found a body of a 23 year old man hanging on a tree.
The deceased has been identified as Kwesiga Aston, a resident of Kyampangara II, Kyampangara parish, Kyampangara Sub-county, who is believed to be mentally ill and he allegedly committed suicide.
Henry Mbehitsya, a father to the deceased said Aston went missing on Monday evening but they suspected him to have gone to visit his sister which was not the case.
Mbehitsya added that on Tuesday around mid-day, they found his body dangling on a tree.

Farmers dealing in piggery and traders selling pork in Kazo district, are devastated by the outbreak of Africa Swine Fever (ASF) in the district.
Ham Rubainika, the Kazo district secretary for production and natural resources said several cases were first confirmed in Migina Sub-county after the visit by the District Veterinary Officer (DVO) and the Lab attendant, who were tipped off by some of the affected farmers.
Esau Mwebeiha, the parish councilor representing Kikoni Parish in the Migina sub-county council said the ASF outbreak was first registered in September 2021, where over 50 pigs in Kikoni parish died.
Mwebeiha added that this which prompted the authorities to institute a temporary quarantine that lasted until May 2022.
Mwebeiha noted that however, in August, another outbreak led to the loss of more pigs.
Rubainika urged the farmers and all the residents to try their best in containing the disease thus minimizing the spread in the district.
According to World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious viral disease of domestic and wild pigs, whose mortality rate can reach 100%.
WOAH notes that there is currently no effective vaccine against ASF.
WOAH adds that although ASF is not a danger to human health, it has devastating effects on pig populations and the farming economy.
The virus is characterized as highly resistant in the environment, can survive on clothes, boots, wheels, and various pork products, such as ham, sausages or bacon.
According to WOAH, human behaviors play an important role in spreading this pig disease across borders if adequate measures are not taken.

Gen Kahinda Otafiire told mourners that Gen Elly Tumwine sent him a message before he left for Nairobi saying he was not coming back and also asked him not to divert from what they were fighting for.
One of Gen Elly Tumwine’s daughters asked the public to forgive him; “Daddy talked about forgiveness during his last moments on earth. I ask for forgiveness from all those my dad wronged and even those who wronged him, he forgave you. May we choose forgiveness and peace from now on,” said Edna Tumwine.
Gen Tumwine, 68, was buried just hours before the event in which he was set to officially be retired from the army which he has served since 1979.
Tumwine who is Uganda’s longest serving army representative in Parliament died from Lung cancer at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya on Thursday, August 25th.
Gen Tumwine was an educator, professional artist and a military officer.

Thousands of people flocked Mbarara University Inn in Mbarara City on August 20th to attend Western Uganda’s singing sensation Ray G’s second edition concert dubbed Ray G Live Concert.
Arguably Western Uganda’s best musician, Muhairwe Reagan popularly known as Ray G had his concert pull thousands from near and far, Ankole and beyond on Saturday.
The concert whose biggest sponsor was MTN Uganda, had concert tickets going for UGX 10,000 ordinary, UGX 30,000 VIP while a table was being sold at UGX 500,000.

Ray G has earned his respect by his ability to make his indigenous language sound sweet and romantic. With his melodious voice, he effortlessly knits love themed RnB, Afrobeat, and Reggae songs in Runyankole.
Ray G has maintained his singing style; from the days of Enshazi, Nokigambahoki, Mureebe, Weeshe, Omusheeshe, there is a lot of Ray G music that Ugandans have fed on that by the time of the concert, many of the people on the Mbarara University Inn grounds had more than 10 songs they badly wanted him to perform.
At exactly 11:45PM, Ray G hit the stage with his cross country hit Mureebe that sent the crowd wild as they sang along word for word.

The show featured performances from Ziza Bafana, Megatone, Rasta Charz, while Western Uganda’s celebrated MC, MC Kacheche was the main host of the event.
The eager audience cheered exhilaratingly at the announcement of each performer and sang along to the stars’ songs as each act dazzled them.

Born 12 June 1992, Ray G who mainly sings heritage music in Runyankore, started singing in 2009 while at school until 2014 when he broke through with his hit song “Amarari”.
On 14 September 2019, he held a successfully concert for his celebration for 10 years in the music industry, he broke a record of staging a highly attended concert in Mbarara City, Western Uganda.
In 2021, Ray G won an award of the best years act from Western Uganda from the New Janzi Awards aimed at recognizing Ugandan musicians in the creative art industry.
Ray G has gained East African recognition after he shared big stages with international artists like Eddy Kenzo, Meddy and Jose Chameleon and secured collaborations with stars like Spice Diana, Levixone, Geo Steady, and the Covid-19 hit that featured all stars.
Residents in villages of Mbogo I, Mbogo Parish, Kanoni Sub-County and Karitutsi II, Bishozi Parish, Engari Sub-County, all in Kazo district are struggling with the problem of using dirty water for domestic activities.
According to the Local council one chairpersons of both villages, Mr. Fred Mugasha of Mbogo I cell and Mr. Godfrey Muhimbisa of Karitutsi II cell, the locals are using this kind of water for drinking, cooking, washing, bathing and for their animals.
Children draw water from one of the available water sources in the area.
The leaders together with locals said they are worried about contracting the diseases related to contaminated water.
Jennifer Muheesi, the District woman Member of Parliament revealed that she has already intervened, and there are plans to construct boreholes for both villages.
According to her P.A, Obed Timbaganya, the identifcation of places where these boreholes are to be drilled was completed on Tuesday, 23rd August, 2022.
Timbaganya added that there are similar plans to also extend the same kind of service to the citizens of Kagarama village in Kanoni, Kaaro village in Kyengando parish-Engari Sub-county and Kakoni Ward in Buremba Town council.
Muheesi noted that in a few months, the problem will get solved completely.
The Ibanda grade one magistrate’s court has convicted and remanded a brick-maker to Nyabuhikye Prison, on charges of growing marijuana.
Prosecution told court on August 23rd that on 28th May this year, Molly Bigirwa the mother to the accused reported to Police that Deus Byamugisha, a resident of Rwengiri Lower cell in Kagongo Division, Ibanda Municipality was growing the prohibited narcotic plant.
Deus Kyomya, the state prosecutor stated that Byamugisha would consume the drug and harass the mother and others at home.
The accused accepted the charge, but claimed it was his wife who planted the marijuana as a herbal remedy for coronavirus (Covid-19). He prayed to court to forgive him, saying his wife abandoned their marital home fearing arrest, leaving the kids alone at home.
While convicting Byamugisha, her worship Esther Murungi said the accused was convicted on his own plea of guilt. She added that since he never reported the person who planted the marijuana to the authorities, he was personally liable.
Prosecution said the convict was a first offender and prayed for an appropriate sentence.
The crime contravened section 47 (i and ii) of the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances Act.
The crime carries a maximum jail term of 20 years upon conviction.
The suspect has been remanded until September 7th, when he will reappear in court for judgment and sentencing.
