Residents of Mbogo parish in Kanoni Sub-county, Kazo district are overjoyed over commencement of works on their 12KM community access road, which has been in a sorry state for over 15years.
The community work chairperson, Tumwine David Tumushabe and another resident identified as Anatori Bikwatsibwamukama, have expressed gratitude to the Woman Member of Parliament; Hon Jennifer Muheesi for lobbying for them Road Units from Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).
Magyezi Henry Bihamu, the Kanoni sub-county Vice chairperson and Kabandize Peter Tizikara, the Mbogo Parish Councillor, requested that UNRA should take over full control of this road from Kazo District Local Government because it has failed to prioritize it, making it impassable for people and vehicles.
The residents say they have been reporting about its sorry state to the district officials who promised to work on it after the rains, but all in vain and they have continuously suffered so many loses and accidents.
Obed Timbangaya, the Political assistant to Hon. Jennifer Muheesi, promised that their office will continue extending various forms of social services to the people of Kanoni sub-county and Kazo at large.
The rehabilitation works on the road have already begun and machines are already clearing bushes on the road.
The Archbishop of Church of Uganda, the most Rev Steven Kazimba Mugalu has condemned the terrorist attack on Mpondwe Lhubiliriha Secondary School in Kasese district.
Kazimba said it is unfortunate for the country still mourning her soldiers killed in Somalia that another tragedy has left such a huge number of people (students) dead.
According to reports, at least 42 people were killed in a suspected ADF attack on Friday night and these included students and two members of the local community who were killed outside the school.
Speaking at St. Emmanuel Kabwohe during his pastoral visit to Sheema, West Ankole diocese, Kazimba urged these cowardly people to stop attacking schools and killing innocent souls and appealed to government to improve on security to ensure people’s lives are protected.

Speaking during the same function, Rosemary Nyakikongoro, the woman Member of Parliament who doubles as chairperson parliamentary defense committee condemned the attack and asked government to increase funding for security saying they need to re-strategize and refocus on security of the country.
During the same visit, Christians in Sheema were left disappointed after the Archbishop said that there will be no creation of a new diocese.
Archbishop Kazimba said that he received the request from Sheema demanding the creation of new diocese of central Ankole diocese which the provincial committee referred back to diocesan synod and synod will establish the committee to stir up the process.
Kazimba advised Christians to follow the right procedures and when the ban is lifted and they are found ready, they will be curved out from West Ankole diocese.
Mbarara City enforcement and Mbarara Referral Hospital security team have conducted a joint operation and nabbed seven female vendors accused of unlawfully operating in the hospital premises.
The developments have been confirmed by Halson Kagure, the Mbarara Referral Hospital Public Relations Officer who noted that the hospital administration has been speaking tough against vendors accessing the premises.
It is said that in 2022, there was a meeting which resolved to ban the operations of hawkers within and outside the hospital premises but all in vain.
Kagure urged Mbarara City Council to guide vendors and designate an area where they can freely transact their businesses and earn a living.
According to Kagure the suspects were produced before the Mbarara City Council grade one magistrate and were remanded until 20th June 2023.
Relatedly, recently, a woman identified as Doreen Amutuhaire was arrested in the hospital after she admitted to having been deployed by the purported witchdoctor in Mitooma to sneak ignorant patients into shrines.
Police have since embarked on gathering pieces of evidence that will lead to the arrest of the said witchdoctor.
Police in Isingiro are hunting for a man who allegedly murdered his wife and daughter on Tuesday night using a panga, before disappearing.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region police Spokesperson confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Yowasi Ndyanabo, a peasant.
It is said that Ndyanabo murdered his wife and their two year daughter using a panga, he later called his relatives at around 10 PM on the fateful night informing them of the act he had committed before he went into hiding.
The bodies of the deceased were on Wednesday found in a banana plantation near Nyakitunda secondary school and they were identified as Marion Kyokusiima,30, a resident of Bugongi Cell, Kihiihi Parish in Nyakitunda sub-county in Isingiro district and her two-year-old daughter.
Kasasira said the two bodies were taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for Post-mortem as efforts to apprehend the suspect are underway.
Ibanda Grade One magistrate’s court has sentenced a 43-year-old woman to five days of community service for beating and injuring her neighbour.
Court presided over by her worship, Esther Murungi ordered Fastina Kundabanyu, of Kashaka II cell in Bisheshe Division, Ibanda Municipality, to publicly apologize to her victim, Annonciata Nyakisiki.
Court heard that the convict attacked Nyakisiki on May 20th as the latter was seated on her veranda where the two share the same compound.
The victim later went to Police and Kundabanyu was arrested and charged accordingly.
The convict was jailed after she confessed to assaulting and causing actual bodily harm on Nyakisiki, which contravenes section 236 of the Penal Code Act.
Kundabanyu was ordered to serve her sentence at the court premises, working five hours for each of the five days’ community service orders.
Murungi also warned the convict that she will be jailed for a six-month, if she fails to serve her sentence and apologize to Nyakisiki.
Before her sentence, she prayed to the court for a lenient sentence saying she has young children that are under her care.
The victim, Nyakisiki wanted court to order her to refund the UGX 500,000 she reportedly spent on treatment and other costs after the assault. The court however, did not grant her prayer because she didn’t have a medical report or the receipt for the purported medical bill.
The magistrate also told the convict that she will be handed the maximum sentence if she ever appears in court over assault.
Authorities at Mbarara city have resolved to construct Temporary pathways along Kanyeite and Taso Bridge as a way of helping pedestrians and motorcyclists to cross.
This comes after a month when the heavy downpour washed away Taso and Kanyeite Bridges both in Mbarara City South Division.
Speaking to our reporter, City Clerk Assy Abireebe said that this was resolved as an immediate remedy since constructing permanent bridges along Kanyeite and Taso Bridge will cost them a lot of money and of which they do not have at the moment.
Abireebe however said they expect to receive UGX 1b from Government in next FY2023/2024 for road maintenance and part of that money will be used to work on the two bridges in question.
Relatedly, the City Clerk said Katete-Rwizi lane that stretches from Vision Empire up to Isingiro road where Katete-Rwizi bridge falls, was included in the secondary cities project that is going to be funded by the European Union which is a grant to the Government of Uganda.
Residents of Kagango and Kashozi divisions in Sheema municipality are overjoyed after National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) extended tapped water to over 10 villages in the two divisions.
A total of over 48kms of pipes have been distributed to the villages of Obukubo, Nyamiko, Rwembirizi and many others.
While launching community water taps at Obukuubo cell, Kihunda ward, Sheema municipality, Dickson Kateshumbwa, the Sheema municipality Member of Parliament hailed the government for revamping Kyarwera water project which has helped the municipality to get enough water.

Following the World Health Organization (WHO) report which ranked Uganda as 1st in alcohol consumption in Africa civil society, residents of Bushenyi district have called for laws to regulate this consumption.
Apollo Kakonge, the Executive Director West Ankole Civil Society Forum said the report is an indicator that Uganda’s levels of production is low since the population spend most of their time on alcohol.
Kakonge added that although the country benefits from alcohol consumption economically, it needs to regulate it in order to have a productive population.
Nathan Byaruhanga, a resident of Bushenyi town attributed the high ranking to government failure to regulate the mushrooming of bars and alcohol factories which have exposed the population to alcohol consumption appealing for reinforcement of existing laws to protect the population against alcohol drinking.
Julius Byamukama, the health inspector Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality however said that the alcohol consumption is on raise in Bushenyi-Ishaka especially with locally-manufactured crude waragi attributing the challenge to low enforcement saying bars have no specified time for opening and this has led people to drink from morning to morning.
The report released by WHO indicated that men in Uganda consume more alcohol compared to women, with each consuming an average of 19.93 litres of pure alcohol compared to 4.88 litres of alcohol consumed by women annually.
The Journalists’ Emyooga Sacco in Ibanda Municipality has registered UGX 1.5m net profit for the year that ended on December 31, 2022.
According to the Sacco’s financial statement released on June 7, there has been a significant increase from UGX 255,300 registered in the previous year.
The Sacco board chairman, Sam Bolya said the group’s operating income rose from UGX 6.6m in 2021 to UGX 11.2m as at December 31, 2022 despite increasing operational expenses like rent.
During the year under review, expenses on personnel grew from UGX 1.1m to nearly UGX 2m, and administrative costs rose to UGX 5.8m, up from UGX 4.6m for the year ending December, 2021.
However, Bolya noted that mounting bad loans of over UGX 14.8m are holding back the Sacco’s performance and denying other members an opportunity to access funding.
A total of 18 borrowers have loan arrears, some of which are two years behind the scheduled end date.
Of these, one of the big defaulters is being demanded UGX 4m and another UGX 2.4m, which he borrowed to fund an emergency and promised to repay after one month.
Scovia Nyamwiza, the chairperson of the group’s loans committee suggested that those with overdue loan obligations are barred from accessing debt after completing the current loans.
As one of the best performing five Emyooga Saccos in the Municipality, the Sacco is expecting to soon receive an additional financing of UGX 20m from the Microfinance Support Centre.
Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital is stranded with a three-year-old boy after being dumped under unclear circumstances.
The child was abandoned by his father at the facility on Friday last week at around 2pm. The boy only identified as Rodgers was picked by the hospital staff who handed him over to hospital management and he is currently receiving care in the hospital’s Natasha Ward.
Alex Mbabazi, a social worker at the medical facility, revealed that they reported a case at Mbarara Central Police Station as well at the Probation office at Kamukuzi after the innocent boy was allegedly dumped by his father only identified as Bob on Friday last week.
According to the records, there was a similar incident in December,2022, where two babies were abandoned at Mbarara regional referral hospital and unfortunately one of them passed on as the hospital administration together with police were still tracing her parents. The other infant identified as Immaculate Ahimbisibwe was dumped by her mother.
Halson Kagure, the hospital Public Relations Officer stated that the hospital is still stranded with Immaculate Ahimbisibwe who was dumped at the facility in December, 2022 with complications of Spina bifida.
He however mentioned that the infant was operated well in the hospital’s Toto ward and thus asked her parents to come for her.
Kagure noted that the hospital usually registers two to three cases of children abandonment monthly with some of whom are children with special needs.
The hospital PRO further condemned the act of children abandonment as it’s criminalized under the chapter four of the Uganda’s constitution.
