Government has been called up to speed up the process of dispersing the funds under parish development model (PDM) so as to enable the population to engage in production.

Hon Bazil Batarigaya Rwankwene, the Member of Parliament Kashari north-Mbarara district made the call while speaking during the stakeholders meeting held at Rubindi -Ruhumba town council headquarters.

Hon Batariganya revealed that, once the money is dispersed in time it will enable the farmers to utilize the funds in time, saying, this will increase production.

In her remarks, the Mbarara district woman Member of Parliament Hon Margaret Ayebare Rwebyambu asked the women to get involved in PDM as one way of eradicating poverty at household level.

Irene Muwanguzi Wasike, the enterprise development specialist at the PDM secretariat who represented the minister of local government Rapheal Magezi asked the leaders to take this program as an opportunity of transforming the societies.

The RDC Mbarara Rodgers Mbabazi assured the public that they will ensure proper supervision and monitoring of PDM funds once the money is dispersed to the targeted population.

Residents of Rwegwe cell, Rwansinga parish, Ndeija sub country in Rwampara district are overjoyed following the completion of a borehole in their area.

Speaking during the commissioning of the borehole, Molly Asiimwe, the area woman Member of Parliament for Rwampara district noted that with this source of clean water, the sanitation will improve.

Molly urged the community to properly look after this water source by fencing, maintaining and utilizing it carefully.

A section of residents who talked to our reporter said it is a big relief since they have been trekking long distances in search of clean water.

The residents of Rwegwe cell added that they will no longer be using dirty water for domestic use.

The newly commissioned borehole was constructed as a donation by the Nile Humanitarian Development Agency at a cost UGX 18 million.

Police in Bushenyi District are investigating circumstances under which a police officer shot and killed a civilian.

Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Naboth Kyabonero,30,  a resident of Buhimba B cell, Kitwe ward, Kyabugimbi town council in Bushenyi District.

According to Tumusiime, the incident took place on Thursday around 3:40 PM in Nyakibonera Trading Center, Kyeigomba B Cell, Kyeigomba Parish in Bushenyi District.

The Police officer identified as Bishaniko George,56, attached to Kyabugimbi Police Station in Bushenyi District reported a case of murder by shooting.

It’s alleged that Bishaniko George booked out at Kyabugimbi Police Station to arrest Kabosa Bafa,30, a resident of Kyeigomba B village, Kyeigomba Parish, Kyabugimbi S/County in Bushenyi District over accusations of breaking into a bar and stealing.

It is said that the suspect (Kabosa) was found with a gang of people, smoking opium, playing cards and drinking alcohol in a rented house and when the suspect saw the police constable armed, he moved out with a sharp panga and swang it with an intention  of hacking the police officer.

In the process of self defense Bishaniko shot the suspect in the leg and the bullet went through and hit the deceased (Kyabonero) on the left side of the stomach and he died on spot.

Kabosa was then rushed to Kyabugimbi health centre IV for treatment while the body of the deceased was removed from the scene and taken Kabwohe healthcenter IV for postmortem examination.

Bishaniko has since been arrested while the gun used to shoot was recovered and exhibited alongside the panga which the suspect was holding with intentions of hacking the arresting officer and investigations into the matter continue.

The acting District Khadhi for Kiruhura Muslim district that covers Kiruhura and Kazo districts, Sheik Male Ismail Attefe has halted elections for choosing Muslim leaders asserting that the electoral process is unclear.

He added that Muslims need to be sensitized first as well as reducing disagreements that were tormenting their minds.

Sheik Male Ismail Attefe made the declaration on Tuesday at Rushere Masjid Noor Mosque, saying if the elections continue before establishing unity among Muslims, they are likely to spark off a fight which will result in wounding one another.

Sheik Male asked the Muslims to benchmark for discipline and unity from other religions if they are to develop their religion.

Sheik Kiruta Halili, the chairman of DAWA in Uganda Muslim Supreme Council for Kiruhura and Kazo said Muslims should first unite before them carrying out elections to avoid chaos.

He alleged that there are people behind the disagreements among Muslims of Kiruhura and Kazo districts.

He added that the constitution for elections has not been well followed to organize the elections.

Hajji Sulaiman Rwaburigunda, one of the Muslims supported the cancellation of elections by the district Khadhi articulating that divisionism among Muslims should first be resolved.

It is said that the elections for choosing leaders had been prepared to happen this week on Friday, 18^th November, 2022.

As the Ebola virus disease outbreak continues to pose a threat to Ugandans, health workers in Kiruhura district have expressed readiness to manage any cases that may be detected in the district.

Elisa Ankunda Mukuru, the administrator at Rushere community hospital in Kiruhura, has revealed that this hospital is ready to handle any patients suspected to have Ebola virus as well as any cases of Ebola virus discovered.

Mukuru urged people to protect themselves from getting infected with Ebola virus through avoiding crowded areas, washing hands and reporting patients presenting signs resembling those of Ebola to the health authorities to intervene.

Mukuru said some people do not treat diseases early enough and seek medical attention when their conditions have already deteriorated. He implored the people to always seek early treatment of diseases.

Elisa Mukuru also advised that after the closure of schools, taxi drivers should not over load people when school children are going back to their homes as a control measure to avoid the wide spread of Ebola.

Uganda’s Ministry of Health declared the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) – Sudan strain on 20^th September 2022 after the test results of a male adult in Mubende District were found positive on 19^th September 2022.

Authorities at Nyakabirizi division in Bushenyi/Ishaka municipality have
today passed a resolution to confiscate animals which are found loitering in and around
town.

During the council meeting held at division council hall presided over by speaker Mackay Twijukye, a section of councilors said that the town is full of animals which dirten the town and residents and the business community have for long complained about the animals but the town agents have kept deaf ears.

The Councilors resolved to hold an operation with police to get rid of the animals in the town because town agents and other technical staffs are conniving with the owners.

Twijukye revealed that they planted over 169 trees but only 4 survived due to the loitering animals.

Andrew Mugabe, the town clerk suggested that the money charged from the owners of each animal should be increased to UGX 20,000 from UGX 10,000 as earlier drafted under the municipal charging policy since the exercise will involve using security personnel like the police.
