Sisters murder their ‘demon possessed’ father, remove his eyes

Police in Serere has arrested four sisters suspected to have murdered their 65-year-old biological father identified as John Okure, a resident of Igora II village Okulonyo parish, Orio sub-county in Serere district.

The arrested have been identified as Deborah Achumo, Ester Achom, Susan Ikwadi and Martha Akwango.

Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson said that trouble started when the sisters believed that an evil spirit had taken possession of their father during the prayers.

“The facts gathered reveal that on the June 15, 2022, Martha Akwango, one of the suspects returned from school while crying, after she got possessed by evil spirits. When she reached at their home, her three other female siblings, started praying over her, to cast away the demons that had attacked her,” said Enanga.

It is alleged that the three sisters, while casting out demons from their younger sister, attacked their father inside the home they shared, and beat him to death on June 15.

It is further said that the siblings poked out both his eyes, which in their vision, was fired with evil spirit, and the cause of the demonic attacks on them.

Enanga described the attack as extremely violent adding that the scene of the crime was full of blood with the deceased’s both eyes poked out.

He added that the four siblings have since been arrested and they are being processed on murder charges.

Christians demonstrate, accuse police of grabbing their land

A section of Christians of All saints church greater archdeaconry have this Friday staged a demonstration accusing Uganda police Bushenyi station of grabbing up to 3 hectares of their land.

Brian Tusingwire, the church estate manager noted that on Saturday, he saw police officers with a surveyor putting the stones to mark the land on church and as Christians they decided to remove them.

They want whoever claiming the land to go to courts of laws.

Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi region police spokesperson said that as an institution they advocate for round table negotiations other than removing the land mark stones.

ADF training camp discovered in Luwero

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have announced the discovery of one of the training camps used by Allied Democratic Allied forces (ADF).

Brig Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF spokesperson announced on Wednesday that intelligence units of UPDF discovered an ADF training camp in Luweero believed to have been the main supplier of trainees and rebels to the notorious rebel group that is responsible for destabilizing the peace of Uganda and neighbouring DRC.

“ADF training camp discovered in Luwero. The media is invited to come tomorrow 16 June 2022 and see for themselves. Transport is available at the Media centre at 10 am,“ Gen. Kulayigye announced on Wednesday.

During the media briefing on Thursday, Kulayigye explained that a team of UPDF officers raided the ADF training and recruitment camp in the compound owned by Kabonge Umar Ajobe located in Kikubajinja Town council in Luwero district.

He added that the house has a welding shop at the front which is used to disguise the sound of bullets firing and an underground trench or cave that is 13ft deep and 9.5’9 inches wide which was used to train other assailants how to shoot.

According to security sources in Luwero, Kabonge has lived in Kikubajinja for 12 years and has had a close relationship with Hajji Walugembe Umar who is a suspected ADF spy. 

It is reported that Hajji Walugembe Umar is a deputy principle of Hamza Islamic School and is believed to have a hand in the recruitment of ADF combatants in Luwero district.

Kabonge is reported to be an ADF operative born in Nakaseke district who is currently being held by security for the attempted assassination of Gen Katumba Wamala, the minister of works and transport on June 1st 2021.

The security have also discovered that it is in this house that the same cell trained and planned the assassination of Gen Katumba Wamala and foiled bombing attempt at the late Lt Gen Paul Lokech’s funeral on August 27th 2021.

Security also discovered bomb making equipment, firing pins, bullets and gun oil among others at the house.

The UPDF and other security agencies are working together with the Media to uncover other cells and training grounds of the rebel group which they suspect has bases in Gulu and Arua districts.


The ADF group is affiliated with ISIS and first emerged in Western Uganda, and is currently known for killing, kidnapping, and displacing Christians in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The terrorist group also claims to have conducted the four bomb attacks in Uganda’s capital of Kampala in 2021.

24 year old man dies trying to retrieve UGX 300,000 from pit latrine

Residents of Kyakabaka village in Rwengaju Sub-county, Kabarole district, are mourning the death of a 24-year-old man who died while trying to retrieve money amounting to UGX 300,000 from a pit latrine on Wednesday.

Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West regional police spokesperson confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as William Ajuna.

Twesige says on Tuesday a one Ivan Mutegeki reported to Kyakabaka residents that his wallet containing approximately UGX 300,000 had fallen into a pit latrine where he had gone to ease himself.

Twesige says that on Wednesday, Mutegeki woke up and left for work without instructing anyone to retrieve the wallet and the money. However, the deceased; Ajuna decided to find means of going into the pit latrine to pick the money.

“The deceased decided by himself to do it by tying a rope on a banana tuber and then he sloped down with it but couldn’t come out and that was the end of his life,” said Twesige.

Ajuna’s body was later retrieved by police and handed over to his parents for burial.

Airtel Uganda named the most admired Telecom brand in Africa

Airtel Uganda, the Smartphone Network with the widest 4G coverage in Uganda, has been named the most admired Telecom brand in the 2022 Brand Africa top 100 event organized at Protea Hotel, on 3rd June 2022.

Brand Africa 100: Africa’s Best Brands is a consumer-led survey that seeks to establish brand preferences across Africa, running for the 12th year. This survey which is the most comprehensive survey on brands in Africa was conducted in 28 countries covering all economic regions in Africa and collectively accounting for more than 85% of the continent’s population and Gross Domestic Product.

To feature on the list, brands had to be recalled in at least one country other than their domicile market.

Commenting on the achievement, Airtel Uganda Head of Marketing, Henry Njoroge appreciated the award organizers for championing and celebrating the excellence of industry players through forums like the Brand Africa Survey where Airtel Uganda was recognized as the most admired Telecom brand in Uganda. 

“Airtel’s positioning as the Smartphone Network in Uganda and across the region inspires us to constantly innovate and introduce products and services that offer what the market needs, by connecting families to their loved ones, businesses to their clientele, as well as enabling access to affordable mobile financial transaction on the Airtel Money platform,” said Njoroge.

While handing over the accolade, Thebe Ikalafeng, the Founder and Chairman of Brand Africa and Brand Leadership, noted, “We celebrate Airtel, among other participants that were recognized in the 2022 Brand Africa Survey.”

He added, “Despite the pandemic, African brands have increased their share of the Top 100 most admired brands by 4% to comprise 17% in the 2022 survey. Brand Africa top 100 awards seek to recognize brands that create a positive image for Africa, showcase its diversity, and drive its competitiveness.”

The recognition came in at the time when Airtel was recognized as the fastest mobile network at the mobile world congress in Barcelona, Spain as the company works towards bridging the digital inclusion gap in Uganda based on the belief that access to the internet and affordable calls has the power to change lives and promote innovativeness among the youth in Uganda and the region.

Teachers resume strike over unfulfilled salary enhancement pledges

Teachers  in Kazo district have joined the rest of the country to champion the fight to ensure that they get what has been promised to them since 2017.

Teachers in Uganda under their umbrella, the Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU), have today laid down tools over what they describe as proposed discriminatory salary enhancement.

“The leadership of the teachers Union countrywide has unanimously ratified the resolution of the standing committee that sat on May 23 to enter into an industrial action effective June 15 if there is no satisfactory feedback on the issues pertaining to teachers’ salary increment across the board for the financial year 2022/2023,” said Unatu in a June 11 letter signed by the Union’s general secretary, Filbert Baguma.

According to Innocent Ahimbisibwe, the UNATU Chairman Kazo Branch, all teachers are called upon to join the struggle without fear to enable the body to have one strong, uniform voice; adding that no teacher should hold a lesson until the Government intervenes positively.

Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s home-coming attracts thousands

Thousands of people thronged Nyakasharara play ground in Nyabushozi county, Kiruhura district on Tuesday for the home coming party of Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba; the commander of land forces in Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

Lt Gen Kainerugaba delegated the ambassador of Uganda in Tanzania; Rtd. Col. Fred Mwesigye who is also former Member of Parliament Nyabushozi constituency and his military assistant Col. Mark Donald Kamugira to represent him at this event.

The delegated apologized to the audience on behalf of Gen. Muhoozi saying that he had been sent on a mission to serve the country.

The event was also graced by several dignitaries including Hon Kajwengye Wilson, the MP Nyabushozi constituency, Hon Jovanice Rwenduru, woman MP Kiruhura district, Hon Dan Kimosho, MP Kazo County, Hon. Jennifer Muheesi, the Woman MP Kazo district, Shedrack Nowomugisha Nzaire, and Michael Nuwagira (Toyota), brothers to President Museveni among others.

MPs pay tribute to their former colleague Gordon Bafaki.

Kira road Police station has this Wednesday morning registered a Fatal accident at Kiwatule along northern by pass which claimed the life of Hon. Gordon Bafaki. The accident involved a Toyota land cruiser TX REG No. UBD 965E T black in colour and a Mercedes benz Trailer REG No. KBZ539Z/ZC 8776 white in colour.

According to the police statement, Hon. Gordon Bafaki, 45, who was the occupant of the black Toyota land cruiser died on spot and his body was taken to Mulago city mortuary.

He was returning from Kiruhura district where he was a member of the organizing committee for Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s homecoming celebrations that took place on Tuesday.

Born on November 9, 1976, Bafaki, 45, joined Parliament in 2016, replacing former works Minister John Nasasira to represent Kazo constituency in the 10th Parliament. He lost his Parliamentary seat to Dan Kimosho in the 2021 general elections.

“Our sympathies go out to the family of the late Hon Gordon Bafaki, former MP Kazo County, his friends and the people of Kazo in this painful moment. Such a young and vibrant life brought to a tragic end! We thank him for his services to his Country during his tenure as MP,” tweeted Rt. Hon. Anitah Among, the speaker of 11th parliament.

The late Bafaki later joined Makerere University where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in Education.

BBC, 29 journalists banned from entering Russia

Russia has banned dozens of British journalists and media representatives from entering the country, the foreign ministry has said.

In a move that Moscow said was a response to Western sanctions and pressure on its state-run media outlets abroad, 29 journalists and members of British media organizations such as the BBC, the broadcaster Sky News, the Guardian and Times newspapers were among others banned.

According to the statement released by Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, more than a dozen British figures believed to be linked to the defence industry were also banned from entering Russia.

Security Guard steals UGX 30m from church

Territorial police in Kamuli District have arrested a private security guard identified as Daniel Muwandane who allegedly stole over UGX 30m from a church.

Muwandane reportedly broke into the offices of Ground-breaking Ministries located at Namwenda Road in Northern Division, Kamuli Municipality, Kamuli District and stole the money which was meant for the training pastors in the region.

Muwandane was tracked down by the District Crime Intelligence team with the help K9 dog up to his home district in Amolatar where he had escaped to. He was arrested with UGX 27.2m which was exhibited.

In another related incident,

Police in Kiira region have arrested two men suspected to have robbed UGX 280million from Bhavin Prajapati, the finance officer of Victoria Nile plastics Ltd.

The suspects who were traveling in a Toyota Wish REG No. UBA 032N are said to have waylaid Prajapati and a colleague as they returned from Bank of Baroda, Jinja Branch, to the factory in Njeru municipality, Buikwe District.

The suspects who allegedly robbed UGX 280million from Bhavin Prajapati, the finance officer of Victoria Nile plastics Ltd.

The robbers reportedly blocked the duo, put them on gunpoint and ordered them to surrender the bag in their possession. The victims quickly alerted the Police of Njeru, Kayunga and Jinja who traced the bag using a GPS device. The suspects were arrested at Rainbow Guest House in Wakitaka on the Jinja-Kamuli Highway, where they were allegedly found feasting on beers.

Police recovered an AK-47 assault rifle belonging to the UPDF, with serial number UG-UPDF-UH-3113, with 28 rounds of live ammunition, a hammer, pair of pliers & harmful drug substances.

James Mubi, the Kiira Region Police Spokesperson said that upon concluding investigations, the suspects who are currently detained at Jinja Police Station, will be charged with aggravated robbery and possession of illegal firearms under case reference CRB569/2022.
