52 year old man dies, three suspects arrested
Police in Kanungu district have apprehended three suspects in connection with the mysterious death of Saturday Alex, 52, a resident of Rwenyerere village, Kihihi town council. The suspects include Jackline Tushemerirwe, wife of the deceased, Habert Ngurusi and Seperanza Twikyirize.
It is alleged that Saturday Alex and his wife Tushemerirwe had a long-standing marriage of over 20 years during which they were known for heavy drinking and frequent domestic violence. Suspicion has been mounting that Tushemerirwe was secretly having an affair with Ngurusi Herbert which may have contributed to the ongoing tensions.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, on December 14, 2025 at around 11:00 am, Tumuramye Boniface saw the couple along with their friends Ngurusi and Twikirize heading towards their former home in Kyozi village. Later that day at approximately 3:00 pm, Saturday was found unconscious in a nearby bush by Mackylin who had gone to collect firewood from her garden.
Mackylin notified her mother, who is the sister-in-law to the deceased. She took Saturday to Kihembe Health Center II for treatment but he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The body was returned to the family home and no immediate police report was filed. However, around 7:00 pm, angry residents stormed the home and accused Jackline of murdering her husband.
The area Chairperson of Kyozi cell arrested Jackline and handed her over to Kihihi Police Station for questioning. Following investigations, police visited the scene, documented evidence and transported the body to Kihihi Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.
