Bus Accident Claims Three Lives, Injures Four
A tragic bus accident involving a Trinity bus with registration number RAT597K has resulted in the death of three passengers and injuries to four others. The incident occurred along the Kabale-Mbarara Highway, near Bukinda Kakatunda in the wee hours of Monday morning.
According to reports, the bus was traveling from Kigali, Rwanda heading to Kampala when the driver lost control on a slope. The vehicle skidded into a deep water trench causing the doors to break as passengers attempted to escape. During this chaos, three male adult passengers were crushed to death on the spot while four others including the driver sustained injuries.
The deceased are Lubwama John Herbert, 26 a resident of Kanyanya Village, Kawempe Division, Wakiso District, Habineza Alfred, 30, Rwandan national and bus conductor and Gadaffi a Rwandan and a bus conductor.
The injured include Habiyaremye Ananias, 44, the bus driver from Rwamagana District, Rwanda and three unidentified female adults whose particulars are yet to be established.
It is alleged that the primary cause of the accident was over speeding on a slope and the bus reportedly entered a water trench after losing control, leading to the tragic scene.
The accident scene was visited by the Rukiga District Resident Police Commander (RPC), SSP Wabwire Alex, RTO SP Mahad Juma and traffic officials led by ASP Rubango J. Bosco. The victims were transported to Kabale Referral Hospital for medical treatment via the Ministry of Health ambulance. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.
The damaged vehicle has been towed and is currently parked at Rukiga CPS pending inspection by the Insurance and Operations Vehicle (IOV) team.
