University student arrested in UACE examination room
Police in Rukungiri district have arrested Cleophas Mbamanyire, 23, on charges of impersonation. According to police authorities, Mbamanyire falsely claimed to be a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) candidate.
ASP Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for Kigezi region confirmed that the suspect is a student at Kampala University Luwero Campus pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with Education. She hails from Ruhabo 2 A cell, Rutunguru Parish, Ihunga Sub-county, Ntungamo District.
The arrest followed an intelligence tip-off by the chief invigilator at Bugangari Secondary School, Masiko Ambrose who was overseeing the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) general paper examination. It was discovered that Mbamanyire was sitting the exam on behalf of one Akampurira Brenda around 11:00 am yesterday morning.
Police investigations are ongoing, with statements obtained from witnesses and relevant documents retrieved from the examination center. Authorities are working to establish the full extent of the incident and any potential accomplices.
Maate urged the public to remain vigilant and assist law enforcement in maintaining the integrity of national examinations.
