Police arrest one in suspected murder
Police in Buhweju District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of Kyogabirwe Olivia, 35, a resident of Enkombe Trading Centre, Kiyanja Parish, Kyahenda Sub-county.
She is alleged to have been strangled by Turinawe Kenneth, 24, a resident of Ruzinga in the same sub-county.
SP Tayebwa Apollo, the Acting Spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi sub-region confirmed the incident and said the case was reported on September 2, 2025, at around 7:00 am.
According to preliminary findings, the deceased’s husband, Kabatungye Nicholas, returned home from gold mining and found his wife’s body lying on the floor of their house.
Reports further indicate that the couple had long-standing, unresolved family conflicts related to alleged witchcraft which may have contributed to the tragedy.
Police officers responded to the scene, conducted investigations in line with standard procedure and later took the body to Nsiika Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death, as required by law.
SP Tayebwa confirmed that one suspect has been arrested to assist with the investigations.
He appealed to members of the public to distance themselves from acts of lawlessness, warning that such actions are punishable under the law.
