Police in Kanungu investigate death of 30 year old woman
Authorities in Kanungu district are investigating the mysterious death of 30-year-old Atwikirize Mackline whose body was found early in the morning of June 28, 2025, at St. Andrews Catholic Church playground.
Mackline, a resident of Mukirwa Cell, Kinaaba Sub-County was reportedly last seen alive the evening before. On June 27, she sold her pig and matooke at a total of UGX 900,000 then went to Kinaaba Market to purchase clothes. Later that evening, she was seen at a bar with some unidentified men consuming alcohol.
Mackline reportedly left the bar at around 11:00 pm in the company of the same men heading back home. Her body was discovered by children heading to the garden the following morning at the church grounds.
The police have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. A crime scene investigation was conducted and a sniffer dog was brought in to assist. The dog’s trails led to the arrest of one suspect who is currently in custody to aid ongoing inquiries.
A postmortem examination was carried out at the scene and the body has been released to her family for burial. Authorities have assured the public that they are committed to uncovering the truth behind Mackline’s death and will continue their investigations.
