Bushenyi Primary Teachers College on spot over Ugx2.8b misuse
The Bushenyi District Public Accounts Committee has initiated investigations into the financial management of 2.8 billion shillings allocated for operational costs at Bushenyi Primary Teachers College.
Committee chairperson Hajj Mohammad Tibesigwa Kamadi reported significant irregularities in how the funds were utilized. He accused the college principal, Aisha Nyangoma, and bursar, Harriet Kuribakanya, of orchestrating these discrepancies within the institution.
Concerns were raised regarding the lack of accountability for various activities conducted at the college, as well as instances where expenditures exceeded the approved budget. Committee member Johnson Nagasha highlighted an alarming case where the college, serving only 74 students, reportedly spent 242 million shillings on food supplies within a two-month period.
Additionally, Nyansio Biryomisho, chairperson of Nyakabirizi Division, pointed out that many suppliers received payments without adhering to proper procurement protocols. The ongoing investigations aim to uncover the full extent of the financial mismanagement and ensure accountability within the institution.
