
2 Injured in Land Dispute Assault-Mbarara City
Residents of Nyamityoobora lower cell, Nyamityoobora ward, Mbarara City are living in fear following an assault on two individuals from the same family in the early morning hours of March 1. The incident which occurred around 2:00am left Lyan Abdukarim and Amina Busingye with multiple injuries.
According to police reports, the victims are residents of the area and were attacked by a group of approximately 30 unidentified individuals armed with machetes, axes and hammers. The attackers vandalized the home of Abdulhakim Lwanyaga while the family was asleep prompting fears of escalating violence linked to a longstanding land dispute with their neighbor, Kennedy Tukwatsibwe affiliated with Mbarara Modern Primary School.
Aminah Busingye, the wife of Abdulhakim Lwanyaga recounted the traumatic experience revealing that the assailants forced them out of their home, tied them up with ropes and left them exposed. She noted that one of their sons managed to escape and promptly alerted officers at the Kijungu police post. The police responded quickly firing warning shots which helped disperse the attackers.
Abdulhakim Lwanyaga who was not home during the assault expressed profound concern for his family’s safety as they await updates from the ongoing police investigation.
SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police publicist confirmed that the police arrived at the scene in response to a call from the family. He stated that one suspect identified as Mudasco Ssegawa from Nyendo-Mukungwe, Masaka District, has been apprehended. Authorities are actively pursuing other suspects involved in the incident.
