Authorities asked to nominate distinguished individuals for medals and awards

Authorities in Kiruhura district have confirmed that preparations in district ahead of National Women’s Day on 8th March, 2023 are ongoing.

Asaba David Nkojo, the Deputy RDC for Kiruhura said that the district is lucky to host such a big event which will benefit the district residents mostly business people.

RDC Asaba added that suitable grounds for this function are being reviewed among the proposed places which include; Sanga, Kashongi and Nshwere.

During her visit to Kiruhura district on Tuesday, Hajjat Malole Zaminah, the Secretary Presidential Awards committee, also head of the Chancery department said that on National women’s day, many people will be given medals for their contributions to the Nation in different areas as a sign of appreciation.

Hajjat Malole also urged women to turn up in big number on that day.

During her visit to Kazo district at the district headquarters, Hajjat Malole Zaminah, made a presentation before the leaders of Kazo about the national honours and awards.

In her message, Hajjat Zaminah revealed that every country has a system of recognizing and rewarding outstanding acts and achievements of its citizens. Such recognition puts on record public appreciation for the contribution of persons who have distinguished themselves in service to the nation.

Zaminah noted that awards in the form of Orders, Medals and Decorations exist almost everywhere in society. Governments, corporate organizations and non-government organizations all give awards in the civil and military sectors, in academia, culture, media, religion, sports, among others.

She also explained that they don’t give money to the medalist but the recognition is highly respected, urging people to always respect such people wherever they go.

She urged the people to always nominate the real and true people deserving to be awarded by their important roles in their different capacities.

The National Honours and Awards Act, 2001 provides for the creation of the Presidential Awards Committee, recognition and conferment of titles of Honour, decoration, medals, awards, and orders, and the establishment of a Chancery, which is the permanent custodian and administrator of Uganda’s National Honours.
