Woman Sentenced to Caution and Fine
Ibanda Grade One Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 30-year-old Fiona Ninsiima to a caution and ordered her to pay a fine of UGX80,000 shillings to a neighbor whose house roof she damaged.
Ninsiima, a resident of Kayanja in Kijongo sub-county faced charges of assault and causing bodily harm to Evelyn Niwasiima and Judith Tumuhairwe as well as malicious damage to Juliet Nimurungi’s house with stones. The incidents reportedly occurred in April 2025.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges attributing her actions to being intoxicated at the time. She expressed remorse and pleaded for forgiveness, explaining that her children were left unattended and she had no one to care for them. Ninsiima also promised to abstain from alcohol in the future if pardoned.
Her plea was accepted and the magistrate, Edith Tusabe, decided against a custodial sentence citing her apparent remorse and reform. “The accused has shown remorse and did not waste the court’s time. She seems to be reformed,” Magistrate Tusabe stated.
Prosecution, led by Emmanuel Tian, had requested an appropriate sentence, citing Ninsiima’s history as a serial offender who had been sentenced for assault last month.
At the time of sentencing, Ninsiima had spent six months on remand at Nyabuhikye Prison.
