
Teacher assaulted,Murdered
Police in Kanungu district have apprehended four suspects for questioning in connection with the murder of Onesmus Musinguzi, 40, a teacher and resident of Rwabushunju Cell, Northern Ward, Kanungu Town Council.
Elly Mate the Kigezi Police Region spokesperson confirmed the incident and identified the suspects as Nagasha Salim, Munyambabazi Isaac, Nuwagaba Henry and Musinguzi Ashraf all residents of the same address in Kanungu.
According to reports, the incident occurred on July 17 around 9:00 PM. It is alleged that the deceased was returning home from Mazoridi Trading Center when he was waylaid at the Keep Left junction near Mazoridi Primary School. The suspects whom he recognized as fellow villagers allegedly assaulted him with an unknown object causing him to fall unconscious.
During the attack, one of the suspects reportedly took the deceased’s phone from his pocket and called his aunt, Dianah who responded to the scene and immediately rushed him to Katate Health Center IV. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, and subsequently transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital. Unfortunately, Onesmus Musinguzi succumbed to his injuries on July 26, 2025.
A postmortem conducted at Mulago City Mortuary revealed that the victim’s spinal cord was broken.
Upon learning of his death, police acted swiftly arresting the suspects and placing them in custody as investigations continue. Authorities have called on the public to desist from acts of lawlessness and to settle disputes through legal means rather than resorting to violence.
The police emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and urged community members to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
