
Celebrate Christmas Responsibly
Leaders at various levels in Kiruhura District have continued to warn residents including parents and children against overindulgence and excessive spending during the Christmas season. They have emphasized the importance of being mindful about the potential dangers that may arise, including financial strain and security threats to personal property such as livestock.
Speaking to Kazo FM, Affande Apollo Mabati, a senior citizen and presidential advisor on citizens and veteran affairs cautioned that the Christmas season often attracts unscrupulous individuals who may seek to disrupt the peace. He urged the community to safeguard themselves, their property and prepare for any potential political developments and their consequences.
Mr. Mushabe Stephen, the NRM chairman for Kenshunga Subcounty echoed these sentiments, advising parents to remain vigilant about their children’s safety at home. He stressed the importance of celebrating Christmas within limits to prevent unrest within the community.
David Kooya Kitakureka, chairman of LCI Nshwere Empango Ward in Rushere Town Council and Banabas Bakekira, director of Mt. Olives Primary School and Rushere Community High School highlighted the need for heightened security awareness regarding property, lives and children during this festive period. They noted that parents and community leaders play a crucial role in identifying potential threats that could endanger their neighborhoods.
Yonah Rusooso, the male district councilor for PWDs in Kiruhura, acknowledged that enjoying the Christmas season is a cherished tradition but stressed the importance of exercising discretion and enhancing security measures during the celebrations.
