Kiruhura: Pupils injured by a collapsed classroom block

More than 16 pupils of Kitura Primary School in Kitura sub-county, Kashongi-Kiruhura district have been injured following a hailstorm.

The pupils were injured on Monday evening when a heavy rainstorm ripped off the roof of their two classroom block and shed all the blocks.

The injured learners were mainly from primary four and primary three but serious injuries occurred to the pupils of primary Four who were rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

Kashamba James, the chairperson of LC II Kitura Parish said that the heavy rainfall started around 4 pm until late in the night and was characterized by hail storms and strong winds.

Kashamba added that the rain also affected garden crops in the parishes of Kitura and Nyaburunga.

He further kindly requested the government to intervene and help the school together with affected people’s gardens to get what to eat.

Leokadia Byakatonda, the LC III chairperson Kitura sub-county revealed that no one has died and others who were taken to the hospitals are not in bad condition where she prayed for a quick recovery for them.

Byakatonda also challenged parents to provide a good and strong classroom for their children and sending signals to other schools to always avoid shoddy work.
