Kazo: Authorities embark on Community Policing to fight crime
The head of the community policing department, ACP Anatoli Muleterwa, has embarked on a campaign to mobilize local council leaders from Kazo district to fight against criminality.
ACP Muleterwa together with a team of senior officers from the community policing department yesterday met with all levels of local council leaders from Kazo district at the old Kazo Church of Uganda, Kazo town council in Kazo district.
“We have embarked on this community policing strategy in this place to remind the local authorities here on your cardinal roles and responsibilities in the fight against crime; adding that they realized that most cases that should have been solved at local council level end up at police, causing case backlogs,” said Muleterwa during the meeting.
He urged local leaders to wake up and play and know their roles like having village registers to profile everyone within their villages.
Rev Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, the LC V Chairperson Kazo district expressed his dissatisfaction over regular transfers of the police officers saying that it is caused by untouchable people reporting to the above offices.
Al-Hajji Mawiya Lule, the resident district commissioner (RDC) Kazo, asked the leaders to go and conduct monthly meetings, make reports and send them to the district security committee in order to work as a team in fighting criminality.
A section of local leaders led by the mayor of Kazo town council, Mugarura Justus appreciated the police for organizing such a community policing meeting but requested the authorities to extend the teaching to the village level noting that as leaders, they are challenged by transport means to reach them.
