Kiruhura: DEO asked to refund UGX 30m Sports facilitation fees.
The State Minister for Education and Sports, Hon Peter Ogwang has questioned how the UGX 30 million that the Ministry of Education and sports dispatched to Kiruhura district this year to facilitate the schools’ sports activities was spent.
Speaking during World Teachers’ Day Celebration in Kiruhura district on Wednesday, he discovered that the district did not participate in this year’s sports competitions which allegedly to sparked off strikes in some secondary schools.
Ogwang said the Ministry sends UGX 30 million to every district in the country for sports activities. Minister Ogwang said they do this with an objective of promoting talents that will help young children to be successful in the future and even prosper economically.
Minister Ogwang asked the District Education Officer to refund the sports Money after learning that although the ministry sends money for sports activities every year, in Kiruhura district no preparations have ever been made for the district to conduct sports.
In his remarks, Byaruhanga Bobson, the UNATU chairperson in Kiruhura said teachers are ignored as some care takers in some schools have not been promoted to head teachers and even work without allowances.
Hon. Herbert Tayebwa, the Member of Parliament representing Kashongi County said it is important for teachers to fulfill their responsibilities of teaching children and giving them enough time so that the students can perform well academically.
