Mbarara: MPs ask government to disperse PDM funds

Government has been called up to speed up the process of dispersing the funds under parish development model (PDM) so as to enable the population to engage in production.

Hon Bazil Batarigaya Rwankwene, the Member of Parliament Kashari north-Mbarara district made the call while speaking during the stakeholders meeting held at Rubindi -Ruhumba town council headquarters.

Hon Batariganya revealed that, once the money is dispersed in time it will enable the farmers to utilize the funds in time, saying, this will increase production.

In her remarks, the Mbarara district woman Member of Parliament Hon Margaret Ayebare Rwebyambu asked the women to get involved in PDM as one way of eradicating poverty at household level.

Irene Muwanguzi Wasike, the enterprise development specialist at the PDM secretariat who represented the minister of local government Rapheal Magezi asked the leaders to take this program as an opportunity of transforming the societies.

The RDC Mbarara Rodgers Mbabazi assured the public that they will ensure proper supervision and monitoring of PDM funds once the money is dispersed to the targeted population.

Rwampara residents overjoyed over new borehole

Residents of Rwegwe cell, Rwansinga parish, Ndeija sub country in Rwampara district are overjoyed following the completion of a borehole in their area.

Speaking during the commissioning of the borehole, Molly Asiimwe, the area woman Member of Parliament for Rwampara district noted that with this source of clean water, the sanitation will improve.

Molly urged the community to properly look after this water source by fencing, maintaining and utilizing it carefully.

A section of residents who talked to our reporter said it is a big relief since they have been trekking long distances in search of clean water.

The residents of Rwegwe cell added that they will no longer be using dirty water for domestic use.

The newly commissioned borehole was constructed as a donation by the Nile Humanitarian Development Agency at a cost UGX 18 million.

Police Officer shoots civilian dead in Bushenyi

Police in Bushenyi District are investigating circumstances under which a police officer shot and killed a civilian.

Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Naboth Kyabonero,30,  a resident of Buhimba B cell, Kitwe ward, Kyabugimbi town council in Bushenyi District.

According to Tumusiime, the incident took place on Thursday around 3:40 PM in Nyakibonera Trading Center, Kyeigomba B Cell, Kyeigomba Parish in Bushenyi District.

The Police officer identified as Bishaniko George,56, attached to Kyabugimbi Police Station in Bushenyi District reported a case of murder by shooting.

It’s alleged that Bishaniko George booked out at Kyabugimbi Police Station to arrest Kabosa Bafa,30, a resident of Kyeigomba B village, Kyeigomba Parish, Kyabugimbi S/County in Bushenyi District over accusations of breaking into a bar and stealing.

It is said that the suspect (Kabosa) was found with a gang of people, smoking opium, playing cards and drinking alcohol in a rented house and when the suspect saw the police constable armed, he moved out with a sharp panga and swang it with an intention  of hacking the police officer.

In the process of self defense Bishaniko shot the suspect in the leg and the bullet went through and hit the deceased (Kyabonero) on the left side of the stomach and he died on spot.

Kabosa was then rushed to Kyabugimbi health centre IV for treatment while the body of the deceased was removed from the scene and taken Kabwohe healthcenter IV for postmortem examination.

Bishaniko has since been arrested while the gun used to shoot was recovered and exhibited alongside the panga which the suspect was holding with intentions of hacking the arresting officer and investigations into the matter continue.

Kiruhura: Muslim elections halted over divisionism

The acting District Khadhi for Kiruhura Muslim district that covers Kiruhura and Kazo districts, Sheik Male Ismail Attefe has halted elections for choosing Muslim leaders asserting that the electoral process is unclear.

He added that Muslims need to be sensitized first as well as reducing disagreements that were tormenting their minds.

Sheik Male Ismail Attefe made the declaration on Tuesday at Rushere Masjid Noor Mosque, saying if the elections continue before establishing unity among Muslims, they are likely to spark off a fight which will result in wounding one another.

Sheik Male asked the Muslims to benchmark for discipline and unity from other religions if they are to develop their religion.

Sheik Kiruta Halili, the chairman of DAWA in Uganda Muslim Supreme Council for Kiruhura and Kazo said Muslims should first unite before them carrying out elections to avoid chaos.

He alleged that there are people behind the disagreements among Muslims of Kiruhura and Kazo districts.

He added that the constitution for elections has not been well followed to organize the elections.

Hajji Sulaiman Rwaburigunda, one of the Muslims supported the cancellation of elections by the district Khadhi articulating that divisionism among Muslims should first be resolved.

It is said that the elections for choosing leaders had been prepared to happen this week on Friday, 18th November, 2022.

Health Workers in Kiruhura ready to handle any Ebola cases

As the Ebola virus disease outbreak continues to pose a threat to Ugandans, health workers in Kiruhura district have expressed readiness to manage any cases that may be detected in the district.

Elisa Ankunda Mukuru, the administrator at Rushere community hospital in Kiruhura, has revealed that this hospital is ready to handle any patients suspected to have Ebola virus as well as any cases of Ebola virus discovered.

Mukuru urged people to protect themselves from getting infected with Ebola virus through avoiding crowded areas, washing hands and reporting patients presenting signs resembling those of Ebola to the health authorities to intervene.

Mukuru said some people do not treat diseases early enough and seek medical attention when their conditions have already deteriorated. He implored the people to always seek early treatment of diseases.

Elisa Mukuru also advised that after the closure of schools, taxi drivers should not over load people when school children are going back to their homes as a control measure to avoid the wide spread of Ebola.

Uganda’s Ministry of Health declared the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) – Sudan strain on 20th September 2022 after the test results of a male adult in Mubende District were found positive on 19th September 2022.

Animals found loitering in town to be confiscated

Authorities at Nyakabirizi division in Bushenyi/Ishaka municipality have
today passed a resolution to confiscate animals which are found loitering in and around
town.

During the council meeting held at division council hall presided over by speaker Mackay Twijukye, a section of councilors said that the town is full of animals which dirten the town and residents and the business community have for long complained about the animals but the town agents have kept deaf ears.

The Councilors resolved to hold an operation with police to get rid of the animals in the town because town agents and other technical staffs are conniving with the owners.

Twijukye revealed that they planted over 169 trees but only 4 survived due to the loitering animals.

Andrew Mugabe, the town clerk suggested that the money charged from the owners of each animal should be increased to UGX 20,000 from UGX 10,000 as earlier drafted under the municipal charging policy since the exercise will involve using security personnel like the police.

Examination malpractice suspects remanded

Two of the three suspects that were last week arrested on accusations of cutting a UNEB  examination envelop in Butambala have been remanded.

Court presided over by His Worship Bob Asiimwe, the Grade 1 Magistrate, Gombe Magistrate’s Court , remanded the two accused persons,  Mulindwa Micheal, 32, a property  broker, and a resident of Nsangi, Wakiso District,  together with  Mbayo Nelson, 45, a teacher and Resident of Namasuba Kikajo, Wakiso, to Kabasanda Government Prison  till next Wednesday,  November 23rd.

The third suspect; Chris Mutayisire, 30, a photographer and resident of Namasuba was released on bail and granted a cash bail of UGX 200,000 while each of his sureties were bonded to a non cash bail of UGX 5M each.

Asiimwe, granted the accused bail on grounds that he is a first time offender and a  freelance  photographer who is not likely to interfere with the investigations.

Court in Gombe, Butambala heard that on Tuesday November 8th, 2022, at Kibibi Town Council in Butambala District, the trio willfully, and maliciously damaged examination material of the  Primary Leaving Examination Mathematics Paper , contrary to section 28 of the UNEB Act 2021.

West Ankole Diocesan Secretary dropped in new reshuffle

The bishop of West Ankole diocese Rt Rev Johnson Twinomujuni has made a reshuffle in his diocesan administration dropping the diocesan secretary Didas Natweta.


During the Diocesan Council meeting held at Bweranyangi on Monday, the Bishop announced that Ven Rev Can. Bethel Namara from Greater Bushenyi Archdeaconry would move to Bishop’s office as Acting Diocesan Secretary and Rev. Didas Natweta from Bishop’s office would be transferred to Greater Bushenyi Archdeaconry as Archdeacon.

He also transferred Rev Joab Akandinda from Katerera Archdeaconry to Rugando Archdeaconry, Rev Meshach Kibeherere from Mashonga Parish to Katerera Archdeaconry as Archdeacon, Rev. Edson Rukundo from Butsibo Parish to Bishop’s Office as Lands and Estates officer and Rev. Keneth Mujinya who had been in this office to Mashonga as Parish priest among others.  

In the same meeting, Runyinya, Rwagasha and Rwatukwire sub parishes have been approved and elevated to a parish level on condition that they each first submit a land title to the Diocesan Secretary before getting letters of award.
 

Marvin Baryaruha, the Diocesan Chancellor Counsel appreciated the Bishop for his exemplary leadership and assured the Council that there isn’t any legal liability against the Diocese.

Kitagwenda: Farmers urged to embrace modern agriculture

The Kitagwenda District Agricultural Officer, Justus Namanya has emphasized the need for collective farming in a bid to improve people’s livelihoods in the district.

Speaking during a media tour in Kitagwenda by Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) on Monday, Namanya said working in groups helps farmers in loan acquisition, bulking and marketing of the produce among other benefits.

Namanya also applauded the SAA organization for mobilizing farmers’ groups to embrace modern agriculture.

Emmanuel Ntamushobora, the Chairperson Kyendangara Area Cooperative Enterprise in Mahyoro town council noted that with support from Sasakawa, they have been able to provide a market for farmer’s produce.

Nyamitanga Technical Institute gives back to Community

As one way of giving back to community Nyamitanga Technical Institution has launched a series of activities as part of corporate social responsibility ahead of its first graduation scheduled to take place on Thursday 17th Nov 2022 at the institute.

Addressing the media during the general cleaning of Kijungu, Mbarara city south division, Gilvazio Bafaki, the Principal Nyamitanga Technical institute noted that various activities will be done in the graduation week including helping the needy by connecting them to electricity, water and motor vehicle mechanics all at a free cost.

Principal Bafaki revealed that they have already handed over a renovated house in Nsikye trading center which was at the verge of collapsing to an elderly woman identified as Hadija Nakate.

Hadija Nakate appreciated Nyamitanga technical institute for renovating her house saying she had never expected at one time to have a cemented house with glass windows and a metallic door.

According to Bafaki, other activities to be presided over by the guest of honour, Janet Kataha Museveni, the first lady and the minister of education and sports include; commissioning the Uganda skills development project industrial maintenance workshop and unveiling a foundation stone on the six storey classroom blocks.

Since it was founded in 1953, Nyamitanga technical institutes is set to hold its first ever graduation and a total of over 4671 students are expected to graduate in various academic disciplines.
