Ethiopian Airlines resumes operations of the Boeing 737 MAX three years after tragic crash.

Nearly three years ago, State-owned Ethiopian Airlines killed all 157 people on board and triggered the global grounding of the aircraft.

In March 2019, Flight 302 from Addis Ababa to Nairobi plunged into a field, southeast of the Ethiopian capital six minutes after takeoff, months after a similar crash left 189 people dead in Indonesia. The victims of the Flight 302 crash, the worst in Boeing’s & Ethiopia’s history, hailed from more than 30 countries.

The twin disasters led to subsequent scrutiny of the 737 MAX’s faulty flight handling system.

The airline says the decision to resume 737 MAX flights has come after “intense recertification” by regulators in the United States, the European Union, China and Ethiopia.

The airline said in a statement that their pilots, engineers, aircraft technicians, and cabin crew are fully prepared to take the B737 MAX back to the skies and they look forward to welcoming the passengers on board.

Ethiopian Airlines flew passengers on a Boeing (BA.N) 737 MAX plane in a demonstration flight that had journalists, diplomats and officials on board and was initially scheduled to reach neighboring Kenya but remained within Ethiopia due to poor weather.

Esayas Woldemariam; the acting Chief Executive Officer told reporters that commercial flights will resume after the demonstration.

The airline revealed that their ‘Vision 2025,’ Ethiopian will strive to become the leading airline group in Africa, carrying 18 million passengers per annum.

Uganda’s oil project to create over 160,000 jobs.

Total Energies and partner China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) have today reached an agreement with Uganda and Tanzania to invest more than $10 billion in developing the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

The Final Investment Decision(FID) was announced during a ceremony at Kololo Independence grounds, Kampala that was graced by the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, Tanzania’s Vice President Philip Mpango, heads of France’s Total Energies and CNOOC among others.

“Today is the day we commit to invest $10 billion in the Tilenga and Kingfisher projects and the 1,443-km long pipeline,” Total Energies chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanne said in a statement. Pouyanne described the controversial pipeline as a “masterpiece” of a project, although critics charge that it threatens livelihoods and fragile ecosystems in the heart of Africa. “From today with the FID, the project will fully enter into the construction phase,” he said.

CNOOC Uganda president Chen Zhuobiao said: “Achieving FID is a first step towards achieving first oil and unlocking opportunities for investment and development of Uganda and the whole region.”

The project aims at exploiting the huge crude oil reserves at Lake Albert, the development of oil fields, processing facilities, a 1,443-kilometre export pipeline from Uganda through Tanzania to the Indian Ocean port of Tanga.

According to projections by the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), 14,000 direct jobs and 45,000 indirect jobs will be created for Ugandans. Of the direct employment, 57% are expected to be Ugandans, which is expected to result in an estimated $48.5m (Shs169b) annual payment to Ugandan employees.

Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu; the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development said this milestone puts Uganda and partners on the path to first oil in 2025.

Government geologists estimate that the country’s gross reserves stand at 6 billion barrels, while recoverable oil is seen at 1.4 billion barrels.

Uganda discovered crude oil reserves near its border with the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2006, but production has been repeatedly delayed by disagreements between the government and oil firms over tax and development strategy, and a lack of infrastructure.

Chris Brown sued for rape in California.

Singer Chris Brown has been sued by a model for rape in California.

The victim only identified in court papers as Jane Doe is a choreographer, dancer, model and musical artist who claims the R&B star drugged her and attacked her on a yacht at rap mogul Diddy’s Florida home on December 30, 2020.

According to the civil suit, the victim is demanding $20 million in damages saying the drink he offered her there made her feel “disoriented (and) physically unstable.” The filing also says Chris Brown led her into a bedroom where, despite her protests, he raped her.

“The traumatic events that Plaintiff Jane Doe experienced shock the conscience and should horrify all of us,” says the suit, filed in Los Angeles.

Accordingly, Plaintiff Jane Doe brings this complaint seeking justice for herself (and also with the hope it may serve as an example for others) who may now or have in the past found themselves at the mercy of Defendant Chris Brown.

Lawyers Ariel Mitchell and George Vrabeck say their client did not immediately report the alleged attack to the police because she was embarrassed.

Chris Brown took a suspense-filled post to Instagram after news of the suit broke. “Whenever I’m releasing music or projects ‘THEY’ try to pull some real bullshit,” he wrote.

However, Chris Brown does not specify who the “they” are.

The singer has been previously accused of raping a woman in a luxury Paris hotel. A claim he denied and was not charged.

Pastor Kiwewesi’s  divorce battle intensifies as Wife Sasha Demands For 10Million Monthly Allowance, 7 Cars, & 7 Plots of land.

Barbra Sasha Kiwewesi, the wife to Pastor Isaac Kyobe Kiwewesi, a senior pastor at Kansanga Miracle Centre has asked her husband to give her $3,000 (UGx 10.8M) monthly. Sasha made the request through the Family Division of the High Court which she claims is for healthcare, education, and other needs of the family currently residing in the US.

The couple solemnized their marriage at Rubaga Miracle Center Cathedral on June 30, 2007 under the provisions of the Marriage Act. Their marriage was witnessed by thousands and had the wedding reception at Namboole Stadium that cost about 300m.

Sasha who has been in the marriage for 15 years says that she is also entitled to 50% of their family property. She requested for seven motor vehicles, seven plots of land, shares in several companies, savings on bank accounts and the matrimonial home in Kansanga.

Sasha also seeks an order of joint custody of their three children between 7-12 years of age.

Sasha claims that five years ago, Kiwewesi changed his character and behaviour towards her, resulting into the divorce case.

According to Sasha, her husband abandoned his matrimonial bed on several occasions without any excuse, thus denying her conjugal rights without any reasonable excuse.

Sasha also accuses the pastor of failing to provide her and the children love, care and affection, failing to communicate with her for several days and weeks, an act she says amounts to cruelty and mental torture.

Sasha says due to the pastor’s unexplainable conduct, their marriage has irretrievably broken down despite her numerous attempts to mend the relationship.

The pastor on the other hand accuses his wife of extreme partying behaviours.

The petitioner claims that her husband’s conduct prompted her and the children to relocate temporarily to the US for their own safety and happiness.

In 2019, family members and friends close to the couple initiated mediations to resolve their misunderstandings that have since been futile.
