
Two arrested over murder in Kabale
Police in Kabale district have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of 36-year-old Niwamanya Bedarn a resident of Murambo 1 cell, Kitojo ward, Bubare Town Council, Rubanda District.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police Region Spokesperson, the suspects are identified as Mutahunga Sophan alias Muta and Byamugisha Lauben. He explained that the incident occurred on August 8 around 6:00 am at Kigongi A Cell, Kigongi Ward, Central Division, Kabale Municipality.
Maate detailed that Niwamanya Bedarn was allegedly attacked and killed by Mutahunga Sophan and others who are still at large. The victim was reportedly selling black tea and mira (Mairungi) opposite Manhattan Hotel in Kigongi when the suspects claiming that he had stolen their property arrested him. They took him to a location opposite TikTok Bar in Kigongi where they were joined by others and subsequently lynched him.
The suspects placed the deceased’s body in a white Toyota Harrier with registration number UBC 505D belonging to Mutahunga and drove the vehicle to Makanga Cell where they dumped the body.
Police officers visited, processed and documented the crime scenes. The two suspects were arrested and the vehicle believed to have been used in the commission of the crime was recovered for further investigations.
