Buhweju: Headteacher Wanted for Beating Student to pulp
A 14-year-old student, Natumanya Moreen, is in critical condition after being severely beaten by teachers at St. Victor High School in Buhweju District, Uganda. The joint police forces of Mbarara and Buhweju are searching for the headteacher, Kabagambe Benard, who allegedly ordered the beating.
Natumanya was falsely accused of stealing 60,000 Ugandan shillings and suffered serious injuries on her buttocks. She was left to suffer in pain before being taken to Diisi Hospital for treatment. The victim claims she was beaten by teachers on the headteacher’s orders, but the headteacher denies this, saying she was beaten by her fellow students.
The District Police Commander, Benon Byamukama, has condemned the incident, stating that corporal punishment is unacceptable under Ugandan law. The police are working to arrest the suspected teachers and bring them to justice. The incident has sparked outrage, with many calling for an end to corporal punishment in schools.
