19 remanded for killing suspected boda boda thieves
Nineteen people accused of allegedly killing four suspected boda boda robbers through a mob have today April, 19, 2024 appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s court in Mukono and were charged with murder.
The suspects, under tight security were brought to court from police custody where charges of murder were read and preferred against them for allegedly killing Denis Sanya, Moses Wafula, Junior Masiga and Abdallah Ssemujju. The four were burnt beyond recognition.
Peace Lamunu, the trial magistrate told the nineteen that they could not take plea because their case which is capital in nature can only be tried by the High Court.
Eighteen of the nineteen were remanded to Luzira prison until May, 2, 2024, whereas a 16 year old minor was sent to Naguru remand home.
Relatives of the accused were dissatisfied with police in Mukono for arresting innocent people citing unprofessionalism where arrests were made without carrying out thorough investigations.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the police, Sowed Lwanga a relative to one of the nineteen retorted; “They(police) arrested over 40 people, many were released because they were able to raise between Shs300,000 to shs500,000 but those who could not raise the money are the ones in court” .
