43-year-old sentenced for beating and injuring neighbour
Ibanda Grade One magistrate’s court has sentenced a 43-year-old woman to five days of community service for beating and injuring her neighbour.
Court presided over by her worship, Esther Murungi ordered Fastina Kundabanyu, of Kashaka II cell in Bisheshe Division, Ibanda Municipality, to publicly apologize to her victim, Annonciata Nyakisiki.
Court heard that the convict attacked Nyakisiki on May 20th as the latter was seated on her veranda where the two share the same compound.
The victim later went to Police and Kundabanyu was arrested and charged accordingly.
The convict was jailed after she confessed to assaulting and causing actual bodily harm on Nyakisiki, which contravenes section 236 of the Penal Code Act.
Kundabanyu was ordered to serve her sentence at the court premises, working five hours for each of the five days’ community service orders.
Murungi also warned the convict that she will be jailed for a six-month, if she fails to serve her sentence and apologize to Nyakisiki.
Before her sentence, she prayed to the court for a lenient sentence saying she has young children that are under her care.
The victim, Nyakisiki wanted court to order her to refund the UGX 500,000 she reportedly spent on treatment and other costs after the assault. The court however, did not grant her prayer because she didn’t have a medical report or the receipt for the purported medical bill.
The magistrate also told the convict that she will be handed the maximum sentence if she ever appears in court over assault.
