Government asked to increase mosquito nets for distribution
Ugandans have called upon government to increase the number of treated mosquito nets per household if they are to fight against the spread of malaria.
Speaking to journalists ahead of the commemoration of Malaria day on Tuesday, 25th 2023, a section of stakeholders noted that in the last distribution of mosquito nets, the government allocated 3 treated mosquito nets per household without considering the inhabitants.
Charles Mwebembezi, the village health team ward II said that despite government efforts to distribute treated mosquito nets, parents gave these nets to their school-going children which leaves the rest of family members sleeping without nets.
Mwebembezi also attributed this challenge to poor statistical data gotten from the local council leaders which leads to disparity during the distribution.
Evalisto Rwambuga, the speaker Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality attributed the rise of malaria cases to ignorance, saying although government distributed mosquito nets, people still use them to shade chicken.
Jennifer Kekimuri, a resident of St Kaggwa urged people to stop waiting for government to distribute the mosquito nets or misusing the nets given to them to prevent the spread of malaria.
