President Museveni warns Ugandans against land fragmentation.
The President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has warned families against fragmenting physical properties, saying it frustrates efforts toward poverty eradication.
President Museveni made the call while officiating International Women’s Day celebrations held at Sanga playgrounds, Sanga Town Council in Kiruhura District on Wednesday under the theme is “Promoting Digital Innovation through gender Equity”.
This year’s theme was designed to celebrate the women driving digital innovation and technological advancement with focus on a safer, more inclusive, and more equitable digital future.
The Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi said this year’s theme focuses on how Uganda should address the gender gap in science and technology to meet the health and developmental needs of women and girls.
“This starts with a call for education, especially for the girl child. Education is the foundation of science and technology. Without a base in Education, we cannot achieve that goal,” said Hon. Amongi.
“Government has come up with several programs to empower women. I think we are making progress, Your Excellency,” remarked Hon. Amongi.
The President launched the ICT center at the National Science, Technology, Engineering, and Innovation Skills Enhancement Project in Rwebitete, Kiruhura district which is expected to create 12,000 jobs and enhance the technological skill base of Ugandans to participate in strategic national infrastructural projects and manufacturing industries.
President Museveni inspected a number of innovations exhibited by women groups in Kiruhura district and awarded 63 people with medals for their distinguished roles in the political and socio-economic transformation of Uganda.
President Museveni also launched the UGX 803 billion special flagship programme to finance women’s projects across the country and signed cheques to give out support funds to women groups under the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP).
The districts which benefited include Kamwenge, Kasese, Kiruhura, Lwengo, Ibanda, Kazo, Bushenyi, and Mbarara.
The function was graced by; the First lady who doubles as Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni, the Vice President, Rt. Maj. Jessica Alupo, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Anita Among, NRM Vice Chair Moses Kigongo, the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon Robbinah Nabbanja and Lydia Wanyoto, the Vice Chair of the Women’s league, Members of Parliament, politicians, Government Leaders and Local Governments Elected Women Leaders and Women Councils.
