William Ruto sworn in as 5th president of Kenya

Thousands of Kenyans from across the country have today gathered at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Nairobi County to witness the Swearing in ceremony of Dr William Ruto as the country’s fifth President.

National and County leaders from across the country, diplomats from across the world and several heads of state including; Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda, Tanzania president Samia Suluhu, Rwanda president Paul Kagame, Ethiopia prime minister Abiy Mohammed among others graced H.E Ruto’s swearing in ceremony.

The swearing-in and inauguration kicked off with the entry of President Uhuru Kenyatta aboard the Commander-in-Chief ceremonial vehicle, after which he inspected a full parade mounted by the Kenya Defence Forces under Lt-Col Gilbert Kinanga’s command.

At exactly 12:44pm, Dr William Ruto took oath as the President of Kenya followed by Rigathi Gachagua as his Deputy President.

The swearing-in process was led by the Judiciary under Chief Justice Martha Koome and Judiciary registrar Anne Amadi.

After he took the oath of office, President William Ruto received instruments of power from H.E Uhuru Kenyatta, the Former president of Kenya.

H.E Ruto was then welcomed as the new President and Commander-in-Chief with a 21-gun salute by the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).

During his maiden speech, H.E Ruto said: “Our immediate focus is lowering the cost of living by empowering food producers, creating jobs for our young people, creating a favourable environment for enterprise and empowering independent institutions.”

H.E Ruto also appreciated the fact that Kenya is host to major international agencies, including the United Nations and pledged that during his reign as president, Kenya will continue playing its key role in international diplomacy at the bilateral and multilateral levels.

“Kenya will continue to be a dedicated partner to peace, security and prosperity in the East African region. We look forward to deepening our integration,” said Ruto.
