Masindi: Journalist murdered

Police in Masindi District are investigating circumstances under which a journalist and news anchor identified as Gerald Aseera, attached to Kings Broadcasting Services {Kings FM 93.6} was shot and killed in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Asera was shot in the chest at around 12am at the Coca cola soda depot in Masindi town by a private security guard who reportedly suspected him of being a thief.
In a statement released by Police, the deceased allegedly accessed the premises using the rare entrance, went straight to where cartons of sodas were and picked 4 of them.
This prompted the security guard identified as Ekou Simon, 38, working with Blue Whale Security Ltd company to shoot him in the chest.
Asera was rushed to Masindi General Hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to injuries.
Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says the suspect has since been arrested and is currently detained at Masindi CPS to help with investigations.
The deceased’s body is at the mortuary of the Masindi hospital as police further investigates the shooting.
