Kazo: Patients stranded at Kazo Health Centre IV

Following a strike by Nurse and Midwives in Uganda under their Umbrella Uganda National Nurses and Midwives Union (UNMU), patients at Kazo Health Centre IV are stranded at the outpatient department (OPD).
In the situation survey piloted at Kazo Health Centre IV by Kazo FM, many of the Patients who talked to our reporter noted that they had travelled long distances early morning only to find nurses not at the facility.
Fredrick Muhumuza, a patient who travelled at least 5km from Kyantumo village, Ntambazi Parish, Kazo Sub-county to the facility said he came for treatment after he was involved in an accident.
He was however asked to go back home, to his dissatisfaction.
Natukunda Silvia and Atwiine Martha; Primary Six Pupils at Kazo Model Primary School in Kazo Town Council, who had also come to get treatment cried when they were told to go back without being treated.
One of the Nurses who was found at the facility told our reporter on condition of anonymity, that they have embarked on this because the government is undermining them and it doesn’t give them hope.
She however noted that the patients with emergency cases (maternity) are being worked upon.
UNMU announced that its members would start a strike joining thousands of allied health professionals who started theirs on May 17th.
