The Directorate of Criminal Investigations Department(CID) has charged a teacher at Ambrosoli International School, Bugolobi identified as Belly Kirimwimana for the allegedly defiling a three and a half year-old, female pupil.
It is alleged that during the month of February and March, Kirimwimana used his finger to inappropriately sexually assault the victim.
Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson confirmed the incident saying the child was found with bruises and inflammation in her private parts. Enanga added that in one of her statements, the victim told the parents that the teacher has bad manners and will be eaten by a dragon.
“We want to thank the parents for reporting the matter to the police, and the school administrators for cooperating with us. It truly showed that their first priority was always their pupils,” Enanga said in a statement.
He expressed concern that more children could have been victimized by this teacher and called upon parents and the school administrators to talk to their children to establish whether or not they could have been victimized by the suspect.
Enanga urged all school proprietors and administrators to adopt best practices that promote the safety and welfare of children at school adding that it is necessary to establish and enforce rules, offer training and provide reminders about high risk situations.
“They should always comply with law, by reporting all incidents of child sexual abuse, so that no teacher escapes from credible allegations of child abuse,” he guided.
Enanga advised that school children should never be left alone with teachers or other staff emphasizing that thorough background checks are a MUST to ensure teachers with poor records are not hired.
The teacher was charged with aggravated defilement and remanded till 24.05.2022.
