Kisoro Police Hunt for Suspects in Murder of 43-Year-Old Woman
Kisoro district police are currently investigating the mysterious death of Sylvia Nyirandagije, 43, a resident of Masaka village, Nyakabingo parish, Chahi sub-county. The police suspect foul play in her death and are actively hunting for the suspects involved.
Elly Mate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson revealed that Nyirandagije was reported missing on December 15, 2025. Her whereabouts remained unknown until December 17, 2025 when her body was discovered in a hole at Bihanga village, Nyakabingo parish. A passerby who was going for a short call beside the road from Iryaruhuri Trading Center to Kisoro town made the grim discovery.
The passerby alerted local authorities and community leaders including Bihanga village chairperson Nteziyaremye Jackson and Masaka village LC1 Chairman Habyara William. The scene of the crime was visited and documented by police and the body was retrieved and transported to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Initial findings revealed injuries on the body with a piece of cloth tied around the victim’s neck, indicating possible strangulation. Despite the investigation, no report of her disappearance had been filed by her relatives, complicating the case further.
Police continue to gather evidence and seek witnesses to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Nyirandagije’s tragic death. The community remains shocked and is calling for swift justice.
