Grief, fear engulf residents of Bufunda -Ibanda Municipality
Grief and fear have engulfed residents of Bufunda 2 cell along Mpiira Street in Ibanda Municipality following the discovery of a missing teenager’s body in his room. The deceased, identified as Rukundo Mathias was a shop attendant operating around Keep Left Bufunda Street.
It is alleged that Rukundo who was last seen alive on Friday evening ended his life by taking rat poison after reportedly being mistreated and threatened by his supervisor over some money lost from sales. His neighbors who preferred anonymity said they last saw him alive on Friday evening and his body was found in his rented room on Tuesday morning.
Neighbors became suspicious due to a foul smell emanating from Rukundo’s window, prompting them to alert the local chairperson, LC1 Mr. Kazooba Stephen. He intervened and notified authorities.
Speaking to our reporter Deus Walugaba, the Deputy Mayor of Ibanda Municipality who rushed to the scene, called on the youth to seek help rather than resort to suicide emphasizing that such acts tarnish the image of Ibanda District. “We urge young people to avoid depression and seek guidance when facing challenges,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Mbetegyereize Godfrey, the Resident District Commissioner of Ibanda, also appealed to the youth to avoid despair and encouraged them to seek support instead of taking their own lives.
The body of Rukundo Mathias has been transported to Ruhoko HC4 hospital as investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death continue.
