Ruteraho highlights irregularities in NRM elections
Lillian Ruteraho who was officially declared the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Isingiro District Woman Member of Parliament seat has raised concerns over irregularities during the party primaries.
Speaking to the press yesterday in Mbarara city, Ruteraaho, a former Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kagadi district voiced her dissatisfaction with what she described as internal sabotage from within the party. She emphasized that her victory was decisive yet she remains troubled by the processes that led to the delays in declaring the winner.
Ruteraho received a total of 67,454 votes, accounting for 46.1% of the total votes cast. She narrowly defeated her closest rival former Isingiro District Woman MP Justin Ayebazibwe Kashaija who garnered 41,441 votes (28.3%). The incumbent, Claire Mugumya trailed with 13,351 votes representing 9.1%.
The final results were officially announced by Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission at the party offices in Kampala, on Tuesday night.
Despite her victory, Ruteraho’s comments highlight ongoing tensions and allegations of irregularities within the party’s primary process raising questions about the transparency and fairness of the nomination proceedings in Isingiro.
