Tanga can’t rectify own mistakes, Museveni
President Yoweri Museveni has acknowledged that the recent National Resistance Movement(NRM) primaries were marred by mistakes and criminal acts including result alterations, bribery and interference with voter registers. In a message shared via his X(formerly twitter) handle, Museveni emphasized that these actions undermined the integrity of the electoral process.
“The mistakes made during the primaries, such as altering results and bribery are criminal and distort the very essence of our electoral democracy,” the President stated. “What is most urgent now is addressing the criminal acts—those who used violence and fraud must be brought to justice.” he further said
He commended the efforts of state agencies like Internal Security Organisation(ISO) and CID which have already taken action by arresting and charging suspects involved in these illegal activities. “Our security agencies have acted decisively but the legal and political issues remain,” he added.
Regarding the declaration of candidates, the President questioned why some flags were fraudulently declared and why the results announced by Tanga Odoi—based on transparent lining-up votes—are not being corrected. “Voting was clear to everyone; how can anyone change those results without looking foolish?” he asked.
He clarified that, according to legal advice, Tanga Odoi cannot unilaterally rectify the mistakes. “The responsibility now lies with the tribunal—our legal experts—to address these issues based on the evidence collected,” the President explained.
He reassured supporters that grievances are being handled and assured that everything would be rectified through proper legal channels. “We are committed to ensuring justice and restoring integrity to our electoral process,” he concluded.
