Buhweju: Alleged Chicken thief murdered
Police in Buhweju district are investigating circumstances under which Louis Kiiza,28, a resident of Rwomushojwa village,Kashenyi ward in Kashenyi-Kajani Town council was allegedly murdered . His decomposing body was found in a banana plantation on Thursday morning in Katabago village, Nyakitaraka parish in Bihanga Subcounty Buhweju District.
According to a resident of Katabago village who preferred anonymity revealed that Kiiza had severally broken into people’s and animal houses, stolen household items and items. The resident further revealed that on the fateful day, Monday October 21, Kiiza had broken into a one only identified as Rosemary’s chicken coop and went away with a number of birds.
Anthony Bankunda, the LCI chairperson of Rwomushojwa Village in Kashenyi Kajani Town council where the deceased hails from confirmed the death to our reporter. Bankunda further revealed that he handed over the suspect and his comrade, Robert Nuwarinda to the LCI chairman of the village where the crime was committed on Tuesday October,22 with the intention of taking him to Bihanga Police post. ”I was surprised to learn about his death this morning,” Bankunda revealed.
Bankunda condemned the act of mob justice and encouraged youths to work hard in order to earn a living rather than looking at stealing as a source of livelihood.
According to residents, Kiiza and Nuwarinda have been stealing people’s property in the area for quite long.They had severally been discouraged from this act but failed to denounce it culminating into Kiiza’s death.
Kiiza’s decomposing body was discovered on Thursday October 24 in the morning with serious head injuries. While prime suspects in the murder are still at large ,the deceased’s body was taken to Nsiika Health Centre IV by police for a postmortem.
