55 year old man remanded over attempting to kill wife
Court in Ibanda has remanded a 55-year-old man to Nyabuhikye government Prison on charges of attempting to kill his wife Grace Kamakondere last month.
The convict identified as Levinary Kabatungye, a resident of Ryensinga,-Nyarukika in Rukiri sub-county was dragged to court by his wife to answer for the crimes.
While appearing before the Ibanda Grade One magistrate’s court, Kabatungye was read the charge of attempted murder for attacking and trying to kill his wife Kakondere with a machete on June 19th 2023.
The victim escaped with deep injuries on her arms which prompted the suspect to run away from the village. Upon his return on Sunday July 23rd, Kabatungye was arrested by Police and he faces charges of attempted murder.
Grade One magistrate Esther Murungi advised the suspect not to take any plea, explaining that her court had no power to hear his case.
If he is found guilty, Kabatungye faces life imprisonment as the maximum jail term for the offence.
He was remanded to prison until August 16, when he is expected to return to court to take plea before the trial magistrate.
