DISOs, GISOs asked to protect government property
The Minister of Security, Maj Gen (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi has ordered district and sub-county internal security officers (DISOs and GISOs) to ensure the protection of government facilities that face general vandalism.
Speaking on Sunday, at a fundraising function at Masya primary school in Nyakagyeme sub-county Rukungiri district, Muhwezi noted that while it’s the role of local people to protect such facilities, the Internal Security Organization (ISO) shall be responsible to protect them from vandalism by working with local governments.
Responding to the concerns of Adam Kyakuwa, the security officer at National Water and Sewerage Corporation who said cases of vandalism of water facilities are crippling water extension in the Western region, the minister said everyone needs to be involved to stop the habit that is eating up infrastructural facilities including roads, railways, signposts and water facilities.
The Former Minister for education who is also the Rujumbura county MP blamed the collapse of traditional schools on failures of the past government and the current economy saying the schools will be renovated when the government recovers economically.
The Chairperson Old students at the school Patrick Behayo said the fundraising was organized by the Bushenyi district woman MP, Annet Mugisha and fellow old students at the school to collect UGX 100M to build new staff houses.
At least UGX 72M was collected.
