29 year old sentenced to 15 years in prison for assaulting relatives
Ibanda chief magistrate’s court has sentenced Denis Mujurizi, 29, of Kategure cell, Kayenje in Bufunda Division, Ibanda Municipality to 15 years in prison for causing grievous bodily harm to three people, including a three-year-old boy.
Mujurizi was accused of assaulting his late uncle’s wife, Beatrice Kenyegamo, 66, his cousin, Justine Kobuhwezi, 19, and his nephew, Joshua Twinamatsiko, a three year old boy on the night of June 2, 2022.
Court presided over by Ibanda chief magistrate, Aloysius Natwijuka heard that all the three victims suffered serious injuries and were bedridden for days in the hospital.
Kobuhwezi who sustained severe head injuries also lost a tooth during the attack.
The crime contravenes section 219 of the Penal Code Act and attracts up to seven years in prison on conviction.
While sentencing Mujurizi, his worship Natwijuka said the convict acted inhumanely and needed to serve as an example to others.
He said that during the attack, all the victims suffered head injuries, a delicate part of the body, and this could have caused their death.
His Worship Natwijuka sentenced the convict to five years in prison on each of the three counts. The sentences will run co-currently, but excludes the time he spent on remand.
