NDA warns the public against Tickoff acaricide
The National Drug Authority (NDA) has warned the public to beware of fake acaricides named “tickoff” being manufactured and promoted by Rubaga miracle centre cathedral, Pastor Robert Kayanja.
Abiaz Rwamwiri, the NDA Public Relations Manager, said on January 02 2023, NDA learnt with concern the manufacture, distribution and use of “TICKOFF counterfeit acaricide which is produced by CPM Wave and was first publicly promoted by Pastor Robert Kayanja at one of his services at Rubaga Church during the 2022 Christmas season.
According to Rwamwiri, “TICKOFF” is contaminated with dangerous and banned chemicals including Diazinon (highly concentrated fumigant), Fripronil (a spray banned in food producing animals) & Benalaxyl (with cancer causing potential).
Rwamwiri noted they tried to engage with Pastor Kayanja and his partners (Marvin Mukasa and Clinton James) with whom he owned up the product and claimed to have a team of scientists from Makerere University School of Veterinary Medicine but these confessed to have never worked or reviewed anything.
NDA working with Uganda Police impounded over 100 samples and to examine results indicated that the acaricide is poisonous.
Rwamwiri has also called upon all farmers who had received supplies for the product to drop at any police station for easy collection.
